Raymond Glen Cherry, affectionately known to many as "Pops," was born on September 19, 1958, in Starkville, Mississippi, to Maxine Hutchinson and Raymond Cherry. On March 5, 2025, Glen left this world, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 10 in the Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Huber officiating. Visitation will be at Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, the day of the service from 10 a.m. until service. Interment will immediately follow the service in Craig Springs Cemetery in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi.
Glen was a man who loved unconditionally. He never met a stranger, and if you stood near him long enough, you were sure to hear a story, a joke, or a memory that would bring a smile to your face. Talking was second nature to him, and making people laugh was a gift he shared freely.
An avid outdoorsman, Glen found joy in the woods and on the water. Hunting was his passion—he loved chasing after anything that moved, but squirrel hunting was his favorite. Fishing, however, was where his heart truly shined. He made sure to share that love with his children and grandchildren, teaching them the ropes and creating countless cherished moments on the water. Whether it was a Saturday morning fishing rodeo or a simple trip to a pond, Glen made sure those days were filled with excitement, patience, and laughter.
Glen was a man who never did anything halfway. If he set his mind to something, it was going to get done—whether it took an hour, a day, or a week. He was the kind of person who always cooked extra, never knowing who might stop by, but if you did, you had a seat at his table and a good conversation waiting for you.
Above all, Glen loved deeply and without conditions. No matter what life threw his way, he made sure his family and friends knew they were loved. Even in anger or frustration, his love never wavered. His greatest fear was never dying—it was leaving behind the ones he cherished most. But today, while we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the 66 years of joy, jokes, stories, and love that he shared with us all.
Glen was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Cherry, his brother, Sid Cherry; and nephews, Jeff Cherry and Tanner Cherry. He is survived by his beloved mother, Maxine Clardy; his brothers, Wade and Toby Cherry; and his sister, Sissy Cherry, all of Starkville, Mississippi. He is also survived by his significant other of 22 years, Hope Cadenhead of Starkville. He leaves behind his daughter, Ashley Cherry of Starkville; his stepdaughters, Michele Milling (Dane) of Eupora, Mississippi, and McKenzie Parrish (Shyy) of Honea Path, South Carolina. Glen was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Brennan and Brayson Thompson, Jaliyah Quinn of Starkville; Xander Milling of Eupora; and Jymarious Holloway of Honea Path.
Though our hearts ache with his absence, we take comfort in knowing that Glen is now pain-free, breathing easy, walking strong, and no doubt talking someone’s ear off in heaven. Until we meet again, save us a spot at the pond, and be ready with a big hug and a good story.
Serving as pallbearers are Drew Cherry, Austin Cherry, Dane Milling, Kin Elinburg, Cody Elinburg, and Gage Cherry. Memorials in honor of Glen may be given to Massey Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
