Mr. Hazel Boyd Starnes

Mr. Hazel Boyd Starnes, formerly of Sturgis, MS, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. Hazel was born on October 12, 1942, in Sturgis, MS to Joseph Boyd and Arlin Juanita (Sanders) Starnes. He was 82 years old. Hazel was a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War and a Union Painter in Rhode Island.

Memorial Visitation Services will be held at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Bradley, MS on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. A Memorial Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Bradley, MS with Rev. Mike Sanders officiating.

Hazel is survived by his two sons, Michael Boyd Starnes (Annette) of Cumberland, RI and Joseph Boyd Starnes (Gina) of Danbury, CT; his three daughters, Margaret Mary Stansfield (Ron) of Blackstone, MA, Julia Mary Vanover (Willie) of Columbus, MS and Hesper Starnes (Alan) of Sturgis, MS; one brother, Chris Starnes (Debbie) of Sturgis, MS; his 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Mary-Beth Wood of Woonsocket, RI and his former wife, Martha Starnes of Starkville, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Boyd and Arlin Juanita (Sanders) Starnes; four brothers, Joe Allen Starnes, Jesse Howard Starnes, Donald Clyde Starnes, and Melvin Fred Starnes; and one sister, Nancy Irene Holston Romaine.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the Oktibbeha County Humane Society.
