Barbara Joan Holdiness

Barbara Joan Holdiness, 78, passed away at her home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Monday, August 19, 2024, with her loving family by her side. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 21 from 5 p. m. until 7 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 22 at Harmony Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Lundy officiating. The family will also receive friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service in Good Hope Cemetery.

Joan was born July 23, 1946, to John David and Florene Miles Hatcher in Winston County, Mississippi. She was a 1964 graduate of Nanih Waiya Attendance Center. For 30 years, she worked at Cappaert Manufactured Housing in Vicksburg, Mississippi, as an electrician.

Joan is survived by her husband, J. W. Holdiness; and her children: Lara (Ricky) Morgan of Preston, Mississippi; Marla (Shaun) Kinbacher of Brandon, Mississippi; Regina (Willie) Smith of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and Jeffery (Kayla) Grimshel also of Brandon. One of her greatest joys was being “MaMaw” to her grandchildren: Steven Thornton, Samantha Morgan, Candace (Tanner) Rimmer, Justin Salters, Gabriel Boone, Alyse Boone (Skyler Marchman), Hannah (Travis) Smith, Joseph (Heaven) Nettles, Jarrett Smith, and Lorelai Grimshel; in addition to her 11 great-grandchildren: Adley Rimmer, Jaxyn Boone, Vernon Nettles, Kenleigh Smith, Austin Smith, Allie Danyel Smith, Kayleigh Smith, Kysen Boone, Lexis Thornton, Ford Thornton, and Ryan Thornton.  She is also survived by two sisters, Faye Collier and Helen Hayes; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. 

She is preceded in death by her grandson, Steven Brian Thornton, Jr.; her parents; brother, R. E. Hatcher; and sisters, Cynthia Hatcher, Johnnie Ruth McAdory, and Cleo Evans.

Serving as pallbearers are Jeffery Grimshel, Jarrett Smith, Gabriel Boone, Justin Salters, Steven Austin Thornton, Tanner Rimmer, Joseph Nettles, Travis Smith, Johnny Hatcher, and Michael Vick.
