Mary Elizabeth Scarbrough

Mary Elizabeth Scarbrough, 64, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 23, 2021, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a. m. Thursday, June 24 at Friendship Baptist Church with Bro. Terrell “Mutt” Mayo and Bro. Junior Davis officiating. There will also be visitation on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Craig Springs Cemetery with Bro. Jeremy McCrory and Bro. Tim Buchanan officiating.

Mary was born June 18, 1957, to Marcell and James Knox Mooney in Jackson, Mississippi. She was a very active member of Friendship Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school class and being involved in any activities going on at the time. Mary loved to travel taking her grandchildren on vacations. She also planned a special individual shopping trip for each grandchild to celebrate their birthday. Mary loved her husband, children and grandchildren very much. She loved sitting on her back porch watching the hummingbirds, looking at her fountain and her flowers. Mary also enjoyed sharing God’s word with all the children she met. She worked for United Piping, Inc., for 41 years. She loved the Lord and she loved life!

Mary is survived by her husband of 18 years Ricky Scarbrough of Starkville. She is also survived by her children: Shane (Leslee) Fortenberry also of Starkville, Leigh (Scott) Childs of Madison, Mississippi, Wayne (Jessi) Scarbrough, Brad (Katie) Scarbrough all of Sturgis, Hannah (Wesley) Howell and Josh (Erica) Horton all of Starkville. One of her greatest joys was being “YaYa” to her grandchildren Hailey, Makenzie, Presley, Tyler, Emma, Avery, Dean, Addy, Dawson, J. W., Wyatt, Walker, Briggs, and Millie. She is also survived by her dad Clyde Wilson of Fulton, Mississippi, her sisters Edna O’Flarity, Cindy Goodwin, Lisa Sandlin, and Angie Wilson as well as two brothers Nelson Wilson and Ronnie (Linda) Wilson. Mary also leaves behind a host of loved nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Marcell and James Knox Mooney, her mother Nellie Louise Wilson, and her sister Millie Horton.

Serving as pallbearers are Shane Fortenberry, Scott Childs, Wayne Scarbrough, Brad Scarbrough, Wesley Howell, and Josh Horton. Memorials in honor of Mary may be given to Craig Springs Cemetery Fund, c/o Renee Pinnix Howell, 2406 Wade Road, Starkville, MS 39759
