Mr. Raymond Lamar Rogers, 90, passed away on Sunday, March 14, , 2021, at Louisville Healthcare. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. on Thursday, March 18th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Becky Smith officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00 noon until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rogers was born October 26, 1930, in Alabama. He was retired from Southern Natural Gas Co., a former business owner, and a retired Major with the Mississippi National Guard. He was a member of the Betheden Masonic Lodge # 205. He owned a gas station and Rogers Bait and Tackle Shop. He was a Winston County constable in the early 1970’s and continued to work in law enforcement as a deputy at the jail for many years. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. He loved to tell stories from his past. He had a “secret” that he shared with his oldest granddaughter, Kim, and to this day it is still a secret. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved dirt track racing and in the 1970’s he and Harold Williamson had race cars “8” and the, “8 + 8”. Later he and Danny Stanley continued and they would take Robbie, Michael, and Adam to the races. He loved the casino and spent many hours there, sometimes days. Raymond loved pets, but did not every officially own any, although he loved feeding the neighbor’s dog. Even had his daughter adopt, “Sugar Mamma” to keep at her house. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Gray Rogers; his parents, Emmett and Janie Mayfield Rogers; his brother, James Rogers; and his sisters, Eunice Rogers Watts and Charlotte Rogers Merrill.
He is survived by two daughters, Margie (Thomas) Haskins and Debbie (David) Hughey; sisters, Marge Shirley of Willows, CA, and Helen (Charles) Perkins of Bay Minette, AL; grandchildren, Kim (Joey) Burdine, Adam (Jennifer) McAdory, Daniel (Nicole) Thompson, Hanna Thompson, Clifton Haskins, Robbie (Jessica) Hughey, Michael Hughey, and Aaron (Jessica) Hughey; and great grandchildren, Joshua Kemp, Isaac Burdine, Hailey Kemp, Tyson Burdine, Kinzi Burdine, Breland Burdine, John Patrick McAdory, Hadleigh Thompson, Addison Hughey, Harley Hughey, David Michael Hughey, Jacob Hughey, Chase Hughey, Zoey Ewing, and Mahlee Hughey.
Pallbearers will be Adam McAdory, Daniel Thompson, Robert Hughey, Michael Hughey, Aaron Hughey, and David Michael Hughey.
The family would like to thank Louisville Healthcare for the excellent care for Raymond during his time there.
