Marshall “Grunt” Mitchell, 79, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Jackson and Dr. Mike Smith officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Mitchell was born on July 15, 1935, to Marshall and Hilda Hall Mitchell. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and he was a self-employed business owner. He answered the call of his country by serving in the National Guard for approximately 10 years.
Grunt is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Sullivan Mitchell; and his daughter, Pam Higgason and husband, James Anthony, all of Louisville. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Olivia Grimshel and husband, Jeff; Skylar Higgason; Trey Mitchell; Brantley Mitchell; and Lee Mitchell. He was preceded in death by two sons, Chad Mitchell and Marshall “Cap” Mitchell; his parents; and his sisters, Jewel Murff and Joy Kasai.
Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Don Baker, Gene Estes, Jeff Grimshel, James Anthony Higgason, Danny Robertson, and Bobby Stewart. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association National Office, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.
