Diane Crow Winans

Diane Crow Winans, 75, passed away peacefully at the Oak Cottage of the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 13 at Noxapater Baptist Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, with Bro. Mike Fondren and Dr. Bob Massey officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Noxapater.

Diane was born April 21, 1947, to her mother, Lucille Reagan Crow and her father, Harold Crow of Noxapater. She graduated from Noxapater High School in 1965. After graduation, she attended Mississippi State College for Women, where she met the love of her life, John Winans, who was stationed at Columbus Air Force Base at the time. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education and taught high school English and history in Natchez, Mississippi, Noxapater, Mississippi, Bruce, Mississippi, Hazelwood High School and East Lawrence High School in Caddo, Alabama, where she retired. She also earned a degree in Accounting from the University of North Alabama and worked in the accounting field, briefly. On December 27, 2021, Diane and John celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. They raised their children in Moulton, Alabama, and upon retirement, they moved back to Noxapater, in her childhood home. They enjoyed traveling together, especially out West in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, and Colorado. She enjoyed planting flowers and creating beautiful landscaping, that her loving husband, John, would help her create. She was a talented decorator and a good cook. She loved to entertain her friends and family. She and John were active members of Noxapater Baptist Church, where she taught an adult Sunday school class, the Willing Workers.

Diane is survived by her son, Patrick Winans and wife, Monica, of Hernando, Mississippi, and her daughter, Allison Catchot and husband, James, of Ackerman, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Momer” or “Grandmother” to her grandsons Allen Landrum and Noah Catchot; and her granddaughters Olivia Winans and Claire Winans. She also leaves behind her brother, Paul Crow and sister-in-law Lynn Crow, in addition to her nieces Penny Crow Stalcup and Paige Crow McKinney, her nephew Jeff Crow, and countless friends. Diane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, and her parents.

Serving as pallbearers are Hugh Barrier, James Coward, Bruce Kirk, Rayford Manning, Marc McCool, Dwight Moore, Danny Price, and Woody Woodiel. The family requests memorials in honor of Diane be given to Mt. Carmel Cemetery Fund, c/o Noxapater Baptist Church, P.O. Box 251, Noxapater, MS 39346.
