Lesli Wood Wilson

Lesli Wood Wilson, beloved wife, sister and friend, passed away November 12, 2018 at the age of 52. Lesli, born on September 7, 1966, was a native of Ackerman, Mississippi and a graduate of Ackerman High School. She studied music at Mississippi State University where she earned a Bachelor of Music Education and then continued her studies at Louisiana State University where she earned a Master of Music. Lesli has been a visual and performing arts instructor at Baton Rouge Magnet High School for over twenty-three years. She routinely worked with Louisiana State University and performed with Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. Lesli's accompanying talent and experience allowed her to work with the Jeoffrey Ballet, the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, the International Double Reed Society, LSU Opera and many other regional events. She also served as accompanist at Blackwater United Methodist Church for the past twenty years.

Lesli was well known for her bright spirit, strong faith in Christ, exceptional musicianship and generous heart for serving others. Her courage and tenacity were evident as she successfully battled breast cancer eleven years ago. She cherished her friendships and had fond memories of her beloved dogs. Lesli will always be remembered by her family, colleagues and the countless students and friends whose lives she enriched and inspired.

Lesli was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Kathryn Wood of Ackerman, Mississippi. She is survived by her husband Larry Wilson who she loved and adored, step children Ashley (Traye) Granger and Joshua (Letetra) Wilson, and step grandchildren Jada, Joshua Jr and Jaden Wilson and Christian and MacKenzie Granger all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Lesli is also survived by siblings Farrah (Thomas) Jones, Jasper (Glennis) Wood, Linda McCulloch and Ronny Wood all of Ackerman, Mississippi and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a memorial service in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at Blackwater United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 17 at 1:00 pm. The funeral service will be held in Ackerman, MS, on Monday, November 19, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Ackerman United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 12:00 till service time at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, Mississippi. The memorial service and funeral service will be led by Reverend Pattye Hewitt of Blackwater United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baton Rouge High Magnet School Visual & Performing Arts Program and/or Blackwater United Methodist Church Music Ministry.
