Harrell Goodin

Harrell Goodin, age 91, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, January 29, 2018, at Martha Jo Leslie State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 31 at Murphy Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Grady Crowell and Rev. Mark Mayo officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Murphy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.


Harrell was born in Winston County on September 26, 1926, to Arthur and Clara Sullivan Goodin. He was a member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church and retired from Southern Natural Gas Company after 40 years. Harrell loved Mississippi State football and was an avid outdoorsman; he loved working on his farm, growing roses in his yard, and fishing. He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Navy.

Harrell is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Jimmie Ruth Hill Goodin of Louisville; his daughter, Beverly Caldwell and husband, Phil, of Abita Springs, Louisiana; and two grandsons, Patrick Harrell Caldwell of New Orleans, Louisiana; and Stephen Philip Caldwell and wife, Gretchen, of Madisonville, Louisiana. Also, left to mourn his passing is his sister, Melva Letteri and husband, Dan, of Louisville. He was preceded in death by his son, David H. Goodin; daughter, Tami Elizabeth Goodin; his parents, Arthur and Clara Goodin; three brothers, Hallett, Hinton, and Harvise Goodin; and two sisters, Mauvelene Rogers and Margaret Young.
