Mr. Evo Mitchel Walker, 81, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, March 16th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Mr. Davie Crockett, III officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Walker was born January 7, 1931, in Stone County, MS. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He retired after more than 30 years as a mechanical engineer with Taylor Machine Works. He was a member of the Living Church of God. Mr. Walker is preceded in death by his parents, Wilma Johnson and Norman James Walker; two sisters, Olga Geiger and Evelyn Reed; and three brothers, Exro Walker, Lesko Walker, and Elco Walker. He is survived by his wife, Denise Ammons Walker of Louisville; a son, Ben F. (Brenda) Walker of Louisville; two step-daughters, Mavis (Victor) Unro of Columbus, MS, and Margaret (Stanley) Stroud of Sturgis, MS; a step-son, R. J. Cockrell of Reform, AL; a sister Edavee Johnson of Wiggins, MS; and four grandchildren, Brandon Walker, Tyler Walker, Quinn Stroud, and Shay Cockrell.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Walker, Tyler Walker, Glendon Driver, Shay Cockrell, Robert Ammons, and Charles Bond.
