Mr. Silas “S. W.” Burton, Sr., 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 12:30 until service time at Whitehall United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Whitehall United Methodist Church, with Rev. Stacy Parvin and Rev. Mike Dowd officiating. Burial will follow in Whitehall United Methodist Church Cemetery. He was born on March 18, 1930, to Aubrey and Annie Mae Burton. Mr. Burton was a retired logger and he was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Mr. Burton is survived by his wife, Mattie Burton of Louisville; two sons, Silas W. Burton, Jr. also of Louisville, and Bobby Burton of Beulah, Mississippi; two sisters, Pauline Chunn of Columbus, Mississippi, and Judy Webb of Louisville, Mississippi; one brother, Jimmie Burton of Louisville, Mississippi; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Annie Mae Burton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joey Gordon, Jamie Gordon, Trea Gordon, Tyler Gordon, James Higginbotham, and Drew Tatum. Memorials may be made to Whitehall United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
