Irene A. Denton, 83, died May 6, 2011, at her residence. Services are today (Tuesday -May 10) at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Greg Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Lynn Creek Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to service time at the church. Cockrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Denton was born Feb. 20, 1928, near Brooksville, to the late Joseph Jasper and Maggie Lee Bryant Abrams. She was a lifelong resident of Noxubee County and a graduate of Brooksville High School. She worked for Cal-Jac in Macon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Denton; sister, Trudy Abrams; brothers, John Wesley and James Douglas Abrams.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Miller of Macon, and Sharon Clark of Louisville; son, Stanley Denton of Macon; sisters, Frances Bell of Macon, Lynette Morgan of Flintstone, Ga., Barbara Jean Edmondson of Louisville, and Donna Nix of Clinton; brothers, John Wesley Abrams of West Point, and Charles Milton Abrams of Steens; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
