Mr. Ivy Willard Black, 84, of McCool, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Friday, April 22, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Ray and Rev. Larry Odom officiating. Burial will follow in Rural Hill Cemetery. He was born on June 12, 1926, to John Winston Black, Sr., and his wife, Gertrude Wilson Black. Mr. Black was a member of Hope Well Baptist Church, a Mason, and a retired state worker. During World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Black served in the United States Navy, from which he later retired.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Ida Mae Teer Black of McCool, Mississippi; six daughters: Julia Burchfield also of McCool, Mississipp, Kathy May, of Stephen City, Virginia, Darlene Waltman of Venice, Florida, Martha Pruett and Betty Black both of Brandon, Mississippi, and Louise Black Coogan of Los Angeles, California; four sons: Lee Black of Salt Lake City, Utah, John Black of Bakersfield, California, Karl Black of McCool, Mississippi, and Karol Black of Brandon, Mississippi; one sister, Faye Tollison of Louisville, Mississippi; two brothers, Carl Black of McCool, Mississippi, and C. L. Black of Louisville, Mississippi; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Winston Black, Sr.
