Mr. Carl Black, 88, of McCool, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Sunday, April 24, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Odom officiating. Burial will follow in Rural Hill Cemetery with full military honors. The procession will be escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders. He was born on September 17, 1922, to John Winston Black, Sr., and his wife, Gertrude Wilson Black. Mr. Black was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. During World War II, he served in the United States Army, from which he later retired.
Mr. Black is survived by one stepdaughter, Sherry Ann Clark of Louisville, Mississippi; six stepsons: Billy Wade Clark and wife, Faye, of Louisville, Mississippi, Thomas Walter Clark and wife, Ann, of McCool, Mississippi, James Lamar Clark and wife, Jamie, of Noxapater, Mississippi, Jerry Michael Clark and wife, Betty Jo, of McCool, Mississippi, Gary Alon Clark and wife, Crystal, of Louisville, Mississippi, and Keith Clark and wife, Kathy, of McCool, Mississippi; one sister, Faye Tollison and one brother, C. L. Black, both of Louisville, Mississippi; one sister-in-law; Ida Mae Teer Black of McCool, Mississippi; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Zola Black; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Winston Black, Sr.; two sisters and six brothers including Ivy Willard Black, who passed away on April 19, 2011.
Pallbearers will be Karl Black, Karol Black, Charlie Black, Jerry Clark, Lamar Clark, and Gary Clark. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons. Memorials may be made to Rural Hill Cemetery Fund. Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, Mississippi, is handling local arrangements.
