Martha Campbell, 81, passed away peacefully Friday, October 2, 2020, at Louisville Healthcare in Louisville, Mississippi.
A family graveside service honoring her life will be held in Heidelberg, Mississippi, at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 8th. Porter Funeral Home in Louisville is handling arrangements.
Martha was born September 9, 1939, in Meridian, Mississippi, to Edward and Elizabeth Peters Campbell. Born with debilitating disabilities, she was their only child. Martha lived at home with her parents and was cared for by her devoted mother well into her adulthood after her father passed away at a young age. Once her care required more than her mother could provide, she was relocated to her home at Louisville Healthcare in June, 1979. Martha was loved and cherished by all in her family and her devoted caretakers.
Due to the dedicated care Martha received from her family, community and the staff at Louisville Healthcare, Martha lived a full life well beyond the 19-year life expectancy given her at birth. Martha was a blessing, a gift, and a miracle to her family and medical providers. As a 40 year resident of Louisville Healthcare, Martha is going to be missed and remembered by all who loved and cared for her. Our family extends our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Dr. Glenn Peters, Charlotte Miller, Toni Jackson, and many other nurses, social workers and entire staff of Louisville Healthcare for their love and excellent care of Martha. Many thanks is also extended to Leigh Avara who accepted the responsibility of power of attorney and legal guardian, lovingly looking after Martha’s affairs for many years.
Martha is survived by her 2nd cousins, Donna Avara Stephens of Madison, Leigh Avara of Madison, Kim Avara Inzinna of Jackson, Leslie Avara Breithaupt of Jackson and many 3rd cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Louisville Healthcare or St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
