Mr. Wesley Elton Dempsey, 85, died Sunday, December 26th, at State Veterans Home in Oxford , MS. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 29th, at 1:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Stacy Parvin officiating. Interment will be in Whitehall Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Mr. Dempsey was born August 20th, 1925, in Winston County. He was a retired construction worker. He was an Army veteran, a Shriner, and a member of Whitehall United Methodist Church. After serving his country in WWII he was awarded The Bronze Star and The Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Dee Smith Dempsey, two brothers, Curtis Dempsey and William Dempsey, three sisters, Janie Pearson, Earlene McAulife, and Lena Mae Horton. He is survived by his son, Wayne Dempsey of Houston, MS, a brother, Bobby Bryce Dempsey of Louisville, MS, two sisters, Lucille Alexander of Columbus, MS and Brentis Alexander of Columbus, MS, three grandchildren, David Wayne Dempsey, Jennifer Ann Ramage, and John Elton Dempsey, four great grandchildren, Logan Elias Dempsey, Natalie Ann Dempsey, Cooper Wilson Dempsey, and Jonathan Alexander Dempsey. She is survived by her husband, George Gregory; one son, George W. “Buddy” Gregory, Jr., both of Louisville, Mississippi; a sister, Dean Reese of Meridian, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Eric Gregory and Heather Tabor both of Louisville, Mississippi; and five great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hayze Gregory, Alexis, Ashlyn, and Devin Tabor. Mr. Clarence Albert “Bud” Sullivan, 77, died Tuesday, December 21st, at his home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, Dec. 23rd, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Bobby Joe Butler and Rev. Fred Underwood officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Sullivan was born January 16, 1933, in Louisville, MS. He was a retired machinist for Taylor Machine Works. He was a member of Zion Ridge Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruby Beatrice Walker Sullivan of Louisville; two daughters, Charline (Bill) Stewart of Louisville, and Marilyn (Jerry) Bressler of Harlingen, TX; four grandchildren, Renee (Chas) Allen, Benji (Liz) Davis, Charles Davis, and Suzanne (Alan) Brown; and two great grandchildren, Jesse Galan Allen and Clara Grace Allen. Mr. McGee was born December 10, 1933, in Louisville, MS, the son of Louise McNeel and John Lawrence McGee. He earned a BS degree at Mississippi State University, and his Masters degree from the University of Omaha. He was a retired Lt. Colonel with the U. S. Army, and served in Vietnam. After retirement, he was a sales rep for Brunt Ward Chevrolet for 16 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Bettye Davis McGee of Louisville, MS; a daughter, Dr. Shawn Campbell of Lexington, KY; a son, William Lawrence “Bill” McGee (Angie) of Slidell, LA; a sister, Bonnie Jewell (Dannie) of Louisville, MS; and four grandchildren, Mason McGee, Hayden McGee, Katherine Campbell, and Cason Campbell. Mr. Toms was born August 3, 1949, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He was machinist.

Mrs. Louie Kemp, 93, died on December 16, 2010 at Lakeside Village in Noxapater. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 18th, at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Bob Schwanebeck officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Kemp was born in Mendenhall in 1917 to the late John P. and Saleta Edwards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Carter Kemp and her sister and brother-in-law, Judge and Mrs. Henry Lee Rodgers. She is survived by her two daughters, Sharri Hendrix (Joey) of Oxford and Nancy Hall (CA) of Benton, as well as 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Louie received degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University where she was awarded a doctorate degree in guidance and counseling. She taught school at Noxapater High School, Louisville High School and Mississippi State University where she also worked in curriculum and research. She was named to the Advisory Board for the College of Education Mississippi State University. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Louisville. She was a past member of the Louisville Junior Auxiliary, Fortnightly Club, Winston County Triad, Winston County Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year as well as a member of the Winston County Hospital Board. She was named a Blue Cross Ageless Hero in 2000 for her community service. She was named Outstanding State Co-ordinator for AARP where she worked with tax-aide and the Legislature to promote programs for the elderly. In 2002 she was named the Republican of the Year and was awarded the Mississippi Governor’s Power of One award. She was a member of the Mississippi Retired Teachers Association, Mississippi Official Women’s Club, and the Mississippi Ladies Bar Association.
Pallbearers are Jamie McMillin, Giles Ward, Charles Bond, John Fair, Niles McNeel, Bennie Hill, and Jimmy McMillin. Mr. Bray was a Baptist by faith and, by profession, he was the plant manager for Arco Plant in Mont Belvieu, Texas. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elk Lodge.He is survived by his wife, Blanche Bray of Broaddus, Texas; one son, McKinley Bray of Bellvue, Nebraska; one daughter, Lila “Patti” Chmelar and husband, Frank, of Caldwell, Texas; stepson, Timothy I. McCollough, of Houston, Texas; one stepdaughter, Lea Ann Geraci and husband, Tony, of New Caney, Texas; three sisters, Peggy Bradley and husband, C. M. “Hook,” of Mobile, Alabama, Joyce Jones also of Mobile, Alabama, and Rissie McNeel of Century, Florida; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Rev. H. Richard Cannon, 78, went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2010, after a long illness. Visitation is Tuesday, December 7, 2010, from 5-8 p.m. at funeral home and Wednesday, December 8, 2010, from 12-2 p.m. at church. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at French Camp Presbyterian Church with burial in the French Camp Cemetery. Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko is handling the arrangements. Mr. Cannon was born in Asheville, NC on October 13, 1932. He graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School and received his BA degree at Columbia International University. Mr. Cannon did graduate studies at Biola University in California, Wheaton College in Illinois, and Westminister Seminary in Pennsylvania. In 1956, Mr. Cannon married his high school sweetheart, Carol Kretzler. Together they served as missionaries to New Guinea. Mr. Cannon had several successful ministries. He pastored two churches, one in Philadelphia, PA and one in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In 1977, Mr. Cannon became the President of French Camp Academy, where he served for 26 years before retirement. The Lord blessed his vision with the founding of WFCA Radio Station, the Bed & Breakfast, the Drane Home, the building of a new high school building and four dormitories, as well as growth that included the expansion of the Historical Area and Camp programs. In addition, he facilitated the acquisition of Chamberlain Hunt Academy to begin the joint ministry between the two organizations. Survivors include: his wife, Carol; two daughters, Kimberly Cannon and Christina Cannon Beutin; one son, Kevin Cannon; three brothers, Jack Cannon of Winter Haven, FL, Allen Cannon of Pelahatchie, FL and Dan Cannon of Bowie, Maryland; and two granddaughters, Taylor Cannon and "Kiki" Beutin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Columbia International University, Evangelical Alliance Mission, or French Camp Academy.

Mr. R. W. Boydstun, 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was born on November 6, 1919, to Maude Hooks and Reuben W. Boydstun, Sr. Mr. Boydstun was a lawyer and was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville. During World War II, he answered the call of his country and served in the United States Army.
He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Boydstun White and son-in-law, Billy White both of Vicksburg, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Keri White Frazier, Carley White and Caleb White; and one great-grandchild, Addison Rae Frazier. He was preceded in death by his wife, Coleen Swearingen Boydstun.

Mrs. Maggie Sellers Haggard, 98, died Sunday, November 28th, 2010, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, Dec. 1st, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Arthur Story officiating. Interment will be in Ellison Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Porter Funeral Home.
Mrs. Haggard was born March 11, 1912, in Winston County, MS. She was the daughter of Fennie Reed and Guy J. Sellers. Mrs. Haggard made her home in Noxubee County until she moved back to Louisville in 1970. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was very involved in W.M.U. work. In 1984, she received a certificate for her five years as Associational W.M.U. Director for Winston County. During this time she helped several churches get a W.M.U. started. In 1990, she received a diploma for completion of the W.M.U. Leadership courses. Mrs. Haggard was also a member of the Business and Professsional Women’s Club, the Garden Club and Music Club. She was a devoted prayer warrior for her family, friends, and her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Haggard; a daughter, Katheryn Haggard; a brother Audrey Sellers, and four sisters, Mavis Wright, Avis Hill, Minnie Mae Eaves, and Eunice Eaves.
She is survived by four daughters, Jane (Carl) Baggett of St. Louis, MO, Judy (Wayne) Bolin of Brooksville, MS, Carolyn (J.D.) Pugh of Brooksville, MS, and Cindy Haggard of Louisville; a son, Donald (Annette) Haggard of Parsons, TN; three sisters, Marvine Kelly of Prentiss, MS, Gwendolyn (Clyde) Burrell of Slidell, LA, and Modean Moore of New Orleans; 23 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Mavis Garner, 79, passed away at Oktibbeha County Hospital on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Morgan Chapel Baptist in Sturgis, Mississippi, on Friday, October 29, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010, at Morgan Chapel Baptist Church with interment following in Morgan Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Windle officiating. Mrs. Garner was born November 8, 1930, to Sula and Leonard Collier. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Ray Garner of Sturgis; three daughters, Beth Hathcock of Cedar Bluff, Mississippi, Amy Smith of Nesbit, Mississippi, and Meg Gregory of Sturgis, Mississippi; one son, Dennis Garner; 11 grandchildren, Joshua Hathcock, Jeremy Hathcock, Lainee Smith Jeffers, Nikki Smith Wood, Shelby Smith, Cager Garner, Travis Garner, Joby Garner, Will Gregory, Evan Gregory, and Emily Gregory; three great-grandchildren, Avery Garner, Julieanne Wood, and Camilla Jeffers; one niece, Charlene Doss and one great-niece, Joanne Doss both of Mathiston. Lois McBrayer

Mrs. Annie "Lois" McBrayer, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, October 25, 2010, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William "Bill" E. McBrayer. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Katherine (Landrum) Stokes of Louisville; Gene (Landrum) Gregory of Noxapater, Mississippi; and Bernice (Landrum) Puska of Houston, Texas. Lois is survived by her daughter, Bambi McBrayer Bagwell, son-in-law, Corey Bagwell and grandson, William Bagwell of Starkville, Mississippi. She is also survived by her brother and sisters-in-law: Royce and Opal McBrayer of Louisville, Mississippi; Sarah and the late Boyce McBrayer of Demopolis, Alabama; Cecil and Liz McBrayer of Weatherford, Oklahoma; and Richard and Nancy McBrayer of West Point, Mississippi. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lois was a retired elementary school principal. She also served as a director of special services and has served many years of teaching regular and special education in Mississippi and Georgia. When she and her husband retired, they moved back to their hometown of Louisville, Mississippi, where she currently lived. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Louisville, Mississippi. She also enjoyed Friday night games of Rook with her friends, traveling around the United States and abroad, and especially enjoyed loving, playing with and spoiling her only grandchild, William!

A special thanks goes to Dr. William Williams of Jackson and his wonderful care during her brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Thanks and praises also goes out to the 5th floor nurses and hospice ministries staff of Baptist Medical Center for their treatment, care, devotion, patience and words of encouragement during our stay at Baptist.

Visitation for Mrs. Lois will be Wednesday, October 27, 2010, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 28, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born and reared in Winston County and lived in Neshoba County for a number of years. She had made her home in Noxapater
for the past 36 years. Mrs. Roark was a member of Pentecostal Apostolic Church in Philadelphia.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon Bailey and Christina Roark both of Noxapater; sons, Ronnie Roark of Los Angeles, CA and Paul Roark of Meridian; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Roy Shepperd of Noxapater.

Mrs. Rosamond, 81, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian. She was a native of Winston County and a long time resident of the Nanih Waiya and Preston communities. She was retired from Nemanco in Philadelphia as an inspector. Mrs. Rosamond was Baptist by faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon L. Rosamond; son, Leon Rosamond; and granddaughter, Cindy Shelton.

Mr. Willie Dallas ( Butterbean ) Shepperd age 80 of Ledbetter, Ky. passed away Monday at the Western Baptist Hospital . Mr. Shepperd was a native of Noxapater, MS. He was a retired Pipe Fitter for ICG Railroad and VMV Enterprise and was a U.S. Army where he served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Shepperd was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles. He was of the Baptist Faith. Surviving is his wife Juanita McCaleb Shepperd of Ledbetter. Five sons Kenneth Shepperd and Douglas Shepperd both of Tennessee, Barry Shepperd of Tiline, Ky. David Mc Manus and Randy McManus both of Symsonia, Ky. One brother Roy T. Shepperd of Noxapater, MS. Mrs. Allen, 53, of Philadelphia, died Monday, October 11, 2010 at her home.

She was born in Hattiesburg and had been a resident of Philadelphia for the past 25 years. She was employed for 17 years as Human Resource Director for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and had worked for NHC Distributors in Philadelphia for the past eight years. Mrs. Allen was a member of West Kemper Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was assistant pianist/organist. While a member of First Baptist Church in Philadelphia she was active in WMU and served as Bible Drill Leader. She was a former member of Philadelphia Arts Council.

Survivors include her husband, Doyle Allen of Philadelphia; daughter, Dr. Ashley Brown Bailey and her husband, Simon of Vance, AL; son, Dr. Craig Brown, Jr. and his wife, Tara of St. Petersburg, FL; step-children, Leslie More of Macon and Clint Allen of Louisville; grandchildren, Carly More, Clay More, Braxton Allen and Bentley Allen; mother, Elsie Moragne of Purvis; and sisters, Elaine Calloway of Oak Grove, Pat Garrison of Brandon, and Bitsy Karoly of Purvis.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Moragne.

He was a faithful volunteer at Winston Academy for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Boydstun. Hubert Baldwin (Butch) Scrivener

Hubert Baldwin (Butch) Scrivener, 95, died October 5, 2010, at Brooklyn Hall Personal Care Home.

Born June 27, 1915 in Derma, MS, he was the son of Hosea Walter and Anna Jo Baldwin Scrivener. Butch was Postmaster of Maben for 45 years after serving four years in the Navy in the South Pacific during WW II. Butch moved to Maben in 1930 and declared Maben to be his home for the rest of his life. A graduate of Wood Jr. College and Mississippi State University, Butch held a degree in Journalism which spun his love of photography. Butch ran, owned and operated Scrivener's Photo Service from 1950 to 1995.

One son, Don Scrivener preceded him in death; and his wife of 64 years, Martha Evelyn O'Brian Scrivener.

He leaves one son, Jim (Michelle) Scrivener of Maben; three grandchildren: Clint (Dana) Scrivener of Louisville, Don (Mary Martha) Scrivener of Vaiden and Jamie Michelle Scrivener of Maben; three great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Jane Scrivener of Louisville, Rani Emeline Scrivener and Andrew Hubert Scrivener of Vaiden.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the Maben United Methodist Church Park Fund or the Maben Lions Club.

Mr. Jimmie A. Bouchillon, 88, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi. He answered the call of his country during World War II by serving in the United States Navy; he also served in the C. C. Camp for two years.

He was a 2010 graduate of Winston Academy, and was currently an employee of Polo Custom Products. He was preceded in death by his father, Kevin Mills, and his grandfather, M. L. Mills. He is survived by his mother, Lori Kelley Mills of Louisville; a brother, Taylor Mills of Louisville; his paternal grandmother, Bobbye Mills of Louisville; and his maternal grandparents, Betty and L. Mrs. Frances Long Reed, 93, passed away at St. Dominic Hospital on Saturday, September 25, 2010 in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Lee Castle officiating. Mrs. Reed was born July 26, 1917 in Reform, Mississippi, to Nora and Joe Long.

She is survived by one brother, Howard Long of Tupelo, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Reed; her parents, Nora and Joe Long; five brothers, John L. Long, Horace Long, B. B. Long, J. T. Long, and R. D. Long; and one sister, Twyla “Janie” Tyler.

Aunt Frank, as she was so lovingly referred to, retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the Southern Bell Telephone Pioneer Association. After her retirement, she moved to Ackerman, Mississippi, and later to Tupelo, Mississippi, where she resided for many years.

James Lamar Pickett, 70, a retired claims adjuster for State Farm and Farm Bureau, died Sunday, September 19, 2010, at his daughter's home in Hernando.
Visitation is Wednesday, September 22, 2010, 10-12 at the funeral home and 2-3 at the church. Funeral services are 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Good Hope Baptist Church with burial in the Good Hope Baptist Cemetery in the Nanih Waiyia Community. He was a Mason with the Winstonville Lodge #277.

Mary was born December, 1, 1929, in Louisville, MS. She was a retired bookkeeper and receptionist for Dr. J. E. Calloway and Dr. Joe Suttle for 42 years. She was a member of First United Methodist church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Gookin; a son, Ben Alan Gookin; her parents, Hilda and Robert McLeod, and a sister, Dixie Kennedy.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Gookin of San Diego, CA; two sons, David Gookin of Louisville, MS, and Gary Gookin of Norman, OK; a brother, Bob McLeod of Louisville; three sisters, Joyce Foster of Louisville, MS, Helen McLeod of Columbus, GA, and Carol Ann Frazier of Arlington, TX; and 6 grandchildren.

Mr. Richie Clark, 38, died Friday, September 17, 2010 at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

He was a native of the Good Hope Community of Neshoba County. He graduated from Neshoba Central High School in 1990 and attended East Central Community College. He was a resident of the Nanih Waiya area of Winston County and was Baptist by faith. He had worked in construction, harvested catfish ponds and had served as a paramedic in Neshoba, Winston and Lauderdale Counties. He had served as law enforcement officer for Philadelphia Police Department, Kemper County Sheriff's Office and East Mississippi Drug Task Force and had served as volunteer fireman for Linwood Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Angie Clark; daughters, Makinsie Clark and Ashley Clark, all of Nanih Waiya; parents, Randy and Judy Clark; grandmother, Odessa "Mutt" Clark; sister, Catina Clark; brother, Eric Clark, all of Philadelphia and numerous nieces and nephews. Extended family members include Angie's parents, E.J. and Johnnie Green of Preston; brother-in-law, Wayne Green of Louisville; sister-in-law, Agnes Fleming of Louisville and their families.

Spiva Keene, 86, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Paul Blanchard officiating. He was born to James Wylie and Elizabeth Cummins Keene on June 24, 1924. Mr. Keene answered the call of his country during World War II to serve in the United States Army.

Mr. Keene is survived by his wife, Janie Bennett Keene and a daughter, Shelia S. Keene of Flowood, Mississippi. He was retired from Georgia Pacific Corporation and was a member of Hinze Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, James Henry Price of Dallas, Texas, and a sister, Ava Meyer of St. Louis, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. “Jim” Price and her parents, Henry and Ruth Wood Clark.

Mrs. Price graduated from East Central Junior College and from Mississippi Sate College for Women. She was a professor at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. She met her husband, James C. Price, while teaching at the University of Alabama. After their marriage, they moved to Pitsfield, Massachusetts, and then to Houston, Texas, before retiring and moving to Noxapater, Mississippi.

She loved sewing, needlepoint, and other craft work, but also was passionate about flower gardening and landscaping. She was also an avid reader, and was a frequent patron of the Winston County Library.

She taught elementary school in Sidon, Drew, and Fernwood, MS, and in Birmingham and Decatur, AL. She taught high school English in Merigold, MS. She also taught homebound children in for hospice ministries in Birmingham, AL.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Vera Powell and Reginald D. Cartledge, Sr., sisters, Louise Leber, Nan Henry, and Marion Hall; brothers, Reginald Cartledge, Jr., and Robert Sydney Cartledge, Sr., a niece, Jennifer Henry, and nephews, Liston E. Cartledge, Jr., and Robert Daniel Henry.

She is survived by her husband, Dean Calloway of Meridian, MS; a brother, Liston E. “Bo” Cartledge, Sr. of Mobile, AL; brother-in-law, Dr. J. E.
