Mrs. Lessie Palmer Reed, 92, died Monday, December 23, 2013, at Brandon Nursing and Rehab in Brandon, MS. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 24th, at Harmony Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Lundy officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Harmony Baptist Church. Interment will be in Harmony Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Reed was born November 7, 1921, in Winston County. She was a homemaker and a retired employee of Noxapater Glove Factory. She was preceded in death by husband, Victor Reed; and her parents, Zonie Arrington and Carlos A. Palmer.

She is survived by two daughters, Madelon Gruich of Gulfport, MS, and Avis Prisock of Byram, MS; one sister, Hazel Kemp of Louisville; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild, and 1 step great great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jason Gruich, Chris Gruich, Philip Gruich, Terry Kemp, Danny Kemp, and Corey Jackson.

Mrs. Smith was born November 8, 1923, in Neshoba County, MS. She was a homemaker and babysitter, and was a member of First Church of God in Philadelphia, MS. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James Monroe Smith; a son, Billy Smith; her parents, Cordelia and William Jackson Yates; two sisters, Mavis Manning and Naomi Pope; and three brothers, Lewis C. Yates, Ethel Yates, and Billy Yates.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Hare of Raymond, MS, and Donna (Jackie) Holdiness of Preston; two sisters, Lindel Hartness of Noxapater, and Barbara (Frank) Berch of Mesquite, TX; a sister-in-law, Christine Yates of Louisville; a brother, James “Bubba” Yates of Scurry, TX; five grandchildren, Alysia Mullens, Derek Holdiness, Debra Hare, Angie Robinson, and Tammy (Larry) Burton; 12 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

John "Tuck" Wilkes, 64, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 20, 2013, at his residence in Noxapater, Mississippi. Tuck was born June 2, 1949, to Birdie Shaw Wilkes and Jackson Dee Wilkes. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and he retired as a District Conservationist with the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resource Conservation Service. Tuck was a very devoted Mississippi State Bulldog fan and was a charter member of the Noxapater Fire Department, where he served as Assistant Fire Chief for 39 years.

Tuck is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beverly Coward Wilkes; his daughter, Jodie Duran and husband, Ralph; and two sons, Chet Wilkes and wife, Amy, all of Noxapater; and Justin Wilkes and wife, Holly, of Louisville. He has six grandchildren: Ty Duran, Morgan Duran, Madelyn Wilkes, Nona Wilkes, Jodie Wilkes and Elijah Wilkes. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Serving as pallbearers are John Albert Young, Ray Sims, D. J. Reed, Ricky Bane, Ken Mills and Johnny Snow. She was a member of First Baptist Church, and was an avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorris Jones, her parents, Willie Mae Dawkins and Edwin Rives; her brother, Brooks Rives; and her sister, Eloise Gully.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Charles Gully; and nieces and nephew, Brook Gully, Beth Gully Wynn, and Janet Gully House.

Talon Vaughn Childs

Talon Vaughn Childs was born and died on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. He is the son of Matt and Anna Childs of Beeville, Texas, and the tenth grandchild of Bro. Mike and Debra Childs, and great grandson of Bobbie Vowell. He was 6 lb. 2 oz. and was 18 inches long – a beautiful little boy that looked a lot like his Papa Mike. While his life of this earth was very brief, he lives on in the hearts of those who love him. A private burial will take place later this week. Mr. Cole was born November 4, 1925, in Neshoba County, MS. He was retired from the maintenance department from Georgia Pacific. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winnie and Grady Cole, and his first wife, Gladys Cole.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Hamm Quinn Cole of Louisville; a daughter, Mary Coletti (Kelly) Barnett of Florence, TX; two step-daughters, Vickie (Randy) Hatten of Gulfport, MS, and Betty(Wesley) Landrum of Meridian, MS; a step-son, Billy J. Quinn of Jackson, MS; a sister, Lois Barnes of Louisville; two grandchildren, Katelyn (Paul Michael) Moore, and Kyle Barnett; and one great grandchild, Luke Moore.

Johnny David Pace, 55, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. David was born June 11, 1958, to Bernice Collins Pace and William Carvel Pace. He was a member of West End Baptist Church and he was self-employed in the construction industry.

David is survived by his daughter, Sheena Pace of Louisville; and by four sons, Joseph Pace also of Louisville; Dennis Whitman of North Port, Alabama; Danny Whitman of Hickory, Mississippi; and Darel Reed of Louisville. He is also survived by his sisters, Cathy Dianne Bush and husband, Kenny, of Starkville; and Linda Edwards and husband, Bobby Joe, of Louisville; and two brothers, William R. Pace of Noxapater; and Ben Pace of Louisville, as well as, a special friend, Judy Bowen, also of Louisville. He has three grandchildren: Jenna and Daulton Whitman, and Johnny Daryn Dupont. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Dillan Whitman; and his parents.

Ken Dotson, Jr., 45, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2013, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Ken was born September 21, 1968, to Arletta Jordan Dotson and Kenneth H. Dotson, Sr. He was a member of South Louisville Baptist Church and he was a postal worker. Ken was a 1987 graduate of Winston Academy where he excelled in football. He was a very devoted Ole Miss Rebel fan and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Ole Miss. Fishing was also a favorite hobby of his.

Ken is survived by his mother, Arletta Dotson; his sister, Beth Edmonds and husband, Daryl; and his nieces, Rachel Edmonds, Laura Beth Fulton and husband, Kenny Joe; and Megan Wray all of Louisville. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy Wray and his father.

Mr. Lovorn is survived by his mother, Dorothy Dan Lovorn of Louisville; his sister, Emily McIlwain and husband, Ray of Collinsville, Mississippi; and his brother, John Lovorn and wife, Jacqueline, of Flowood, Mississippi. Robbie is also survived by his daughters, Anna Claire Sanford and Melissa Grace Anderson both of Decatur, Mississippi; and he has two grandchildren: William Collier Sanford and Perry Allyn Sanford. He was preceded in death by his father.

Frankye S. Bright

Frankye Stephenson Bright,100, died December 2, 2013. Born on January 7, 1913, in the ByWy Community of Choctaw County, Mississippi, she was the daughter of John Tom and Ila Velma Daves Stephenson and the granddaughter of Newton McKnight and Musurah Catherine Connaway Stephenson and William Wesley and Mary Susan Cummings Daves, all of Choctaw County. She was the fourth of nine children: Bertie Coy Stephenson, Doyle Reed Stephenson, Exa R. Myrtle Stephenson Busby,Frankye, Addie Irene Stephenson Robinson, John Kilpatrick Stephenson, Grace Marie Stephenson Nabors, William Newt Stephenson, and Anna Fay Stephenson Guest. Frankye was married for 49 years to Myrah Clinton Bright, who died in 1988.

Frankye Bright attended Bennett Academy, Wood Junior College, and State Teachers College (now The University of Southern Mississippi). She was an elementary school teacher at Hebron in Reform, Mississippi, in the 1930s and later in DeKalb County, Georgia. Mrs. Bright lived in Avondale Estates, Georgia, until 2003 when she moved to Sewanee, Tennessee, to live with family.
She was a member of Columbia Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Georgia. She served as President of the Presbyterian Women and was given an honorary Life Membership, organized the Women of the Church prayer group, was a member of the ABC Class, taught Sunday School for many years, and was Superintendent of Children's Work for three years.

Frankye Bright is survived by her sister, Anna Fay Stephenson Guest of Madison, Alabama, and her children, Linda Carole Bright Lankewicz (husband Frank) of Sewanee, Tennessee, and Harold Reed Bright (wife Cheryl) of Elora, Tennessee. She is survived by grandchildren David Wayne Lankewicz (wife Jennifer) of Hickory, North Carolina; Gentry Ann Lankewicz Holbert (husband Robert) of Mobile, Alabama; Lt. Funeral services will be at Enon Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ackerman, Mississippi, on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Enon Cemetery. Douglas Burton

Douglas Burton, 58, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Monday, December 9, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Bouchillon and Rev. Mike Dowd officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Douglas was born May 22, 1955, to Marie Hodges Burton and the late James Alton Burton. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and he had worked at Taylor Machine Works as a foreman for 19 years.

Mr. Burton is survived by his wife, Shelia Burton of McCool, Mississippi; his mother, Marie Burton of Eupora ; his daughter, Stephanie Hemphill and husband, Bumper, of Louisville, Mississippi; and his sons, Michael Burton and Bobby Joe Burton and wife, Kim, all of McCool. Douglas is also survived by five sisters: Julie Burton, Darlene Jones (Dexter), Debra Medders, Linda Dempsey (Randy), and Joyce May; as well as, three brothers, Russell Burton (Diane), Roy Burton, and David Burton. He has five grandchildren: Katelyn Hemphill, Dalton Hemphill, Carrington Burton, Isabella Burton, and Kailyn Burton. He was preceded in death by his father.

Pallbearers are Robby Dempsey, Tony Dempsey, Randy Woolington, Bennie Sanders, William “Son” Vowell, and Todd Turnipseed. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Neal Griffith and Brady Griffith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to a special account at Regions Bank which was established for family expenses.

Mildred Elizabeth Watkins Wilson

Mildred Watkins Wilson was born on St. Patrick’s Day in 1918 in Saulsbury, Tennessee to the late Dr. Thaddeus Earl Watkins and Nettie Rush Watkins. She was the wife of the late Dr. David T. Wilson, Sr. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Earline Watkins and Esther Watkins and a brother, Thaddeus Earl Watkins, Jr.

Mildred passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, on Friday, December 13, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Louisville with Father Augustine Palimattam officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A longtime resident of Louisville, Mildred was known for her Southern hospitality. Whether you stayed at Mildred’s home for an extended visit or just “dropped in,” she welcomed you with open arms and served wonderful meals. Mildred attended football games at Ole Miss for over 50 years. An excellent cook, she was known to have one of the best tailgates around.

An active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mildred served and worshipped with her faith community. In 1947, she co-signed the bank note for the building of the church. Before Sacred Heart was built, members of the church celebrated mass in Mildred’s home. She was heavily involved in club work and civic activities, most notably the March of Dimes.

Mildred is survived by her son, David Wilson, Jr., of Louisville, and daughter, Carol Wilson Kramer (Fred) of St. Louis, Missouri; three grandchildren: John Kramer (Kim) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Katie Kramer Jaroch (Jay) of Santa Monica, California; and Kevin Kramer of St. Louis, Missouri. Mildred also has one great-grandson, Wilson Alexander Jaroch of Santa Monica; a sister-in law, Louise Watkins of Nashville, Tennessee and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mildred loved her family, parties, and good times. With a personality larger than life, she will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and beautiful smile.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Sam Suttle, the nurses and staff of Quality Hospice, and Mildred’s loving caregivers, Charlene Webb, Alice Saddler, Lila Yates, and Sharon Casey.

David Robinson

Mr.David Robinson, 60, of Noxapater, died Sunday, December 1, 2013, at his home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 6 at McClain-Hays Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, December 5, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at funeral home. Interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery with Rev. Scott Boatner officiating.

Mr. Robinson lived most of his life in Noxapater. He worked as an electrician/millwright at Weyerhaeuser for thirty years. Mr. Robinson enjoyed working in his shop, restoring his 52 Ford truck, and fishing. He was a humble and generous man. His smile and laughter were contagious. Mr. Robinson was a devoted husband, daddy, paw paw, brother, and uncle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary Robinson of Noxapater; his daughter, Mistie Arthur of Sebastopol; his son, Jason Robinson (Amy) of Noxapater; his step-son, Matt Robinson (Angie) of Noxapater; four grandsons, Hunter Arthur, Jacob Robinson, Joshua Robinson, and Jonah Robinson; two granddaughters, Kayla Robinson and Hannah Arthur; sisters, Michael Loparo (Vince), Linda Frietag (Bob), and Debbie Mraz (Bill), all of Ohio; and brothers, Mark Robinson (Evelyn) of Noxapater, Pat Robinson (Linda) of Tennessee, and Jimmy Robinson (Cynthia) of Batesville.

Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents, Noflet and Miki Robinson; and his brothers, Chris Robinson and Rob Robinson.

Mr. John Billy Freshour, 86, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 2, 2013, at his residence in Macon, Mississippi. Jimmie Payne Irving

Jimmie Payne Irving, 87, died Saturday, November 30th, 2013 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford, MS. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 3rd at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman. Services are at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Ackerman United Methodist Church with burial in Enon Cemetery in Ackerman. Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman is in charge of all arrangements.
 
Mrs. Irving was a graduate of McAdams High School and Mississippi Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Irving had a long career working as an RN at the Choctaw County Health Department. She was a member of the Ackerman Presbyterian Church; and later, the Ackerman United Methodist Church. 

Jimmie is survived by: three daughters, Jan Bruening and husband Gayle of Madison, Cissy Voight and husband Mike of Nashville, TN, and Pam Marriam and husband Robert of Oxford; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one sister, Francis Payne Ward of Durant, one brother, Sam Payne of McAdams, and many beloved nieces and nephews. 

Jimmie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Prentiss Brooks Irving; her parents, John Francis and Mattie Moore Payne, six sisters and three brothers.
Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Irving to French Camp Academy in French Camp, MS or Palmer Home for Children in Columbus, MS.
