Velma Hooks

Mrs. Velma Ruth Hooks, 96, died Monday, January 31, 2011, at her home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 3rd at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Brett Golson and Rev. Billy Bowie officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Murphy Creek Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hooks was born January 7, 1915, in Chickasaw County, MS. She was a retired customer service representative for Spartus Corporation, and a member of First Baptist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star, The Joy Club, and The Grace Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Caleb Hooks Sr.; a son, George Caleb Hooks Jr.; her parents, Arthur D. Ruth and Edna Irene Thomas; four brothers, Gilman Ruth, B.T. Ruth, Charles Ruth, Leon Ruth, and Grady Ruth; and one sister, Dorothy Faye Acker. She is survived by one daughter, Ouida (William) Donald of Louisville, MS; two sons, Kenneth E. Hooks of Louisville, MS and Johnnie Horace (Pat) Hooks of Howell, MI ; a sister, Lavelle Haggard of Mobile, AL; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Hatcher, 92, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Neshoba County Nursing Home.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County. Mrs. Hatcher was a member of Longino United Methodist Church. She was a retired seamstress from Wells-Lamont Corporation.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Henry and her husband, P. J. of Union; granddaughter, Tanya Thomas and her husband, Bryan of Carthage; grandson, Ryan Henry and his wife, Susan of Meridian; great-granddaughter, Caroline Thomas and great-grandson, Parker Thomas, both of Carthage; sisters, Oleta Chunn of Philadelphia, Bettye Jo Coward and her husband, Olyn of Pickinsville, AL, Mae Barnett and her husband, Ed of Raymond and Faye Luke of Noxapater.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R. B. Hatcher; her parents, Edgar Sr. and Betty Price and one brother, Edgar Price, Jr.

Mr. Charlie L. Barfield, 68, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Monday, January 31, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held at Union Ridge Baptist Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, from 1 p.m. until service time. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Union Ridge Baptist Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, with burial following in Union Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Greg Thomas officiating. Mr. Barfield was a member of Union Ridge Baptist Church and, by profession, he was an iron worker. He served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann Barnett Barfield of Noxapater, Mississippi; one daughter, Patricia Ann Barfield Stewart of Morton, Mississippi; one son, Michael Stanley of Noxapater, Mississippi; two sisters, Carol Byars of South Carolina and Eva Mize of Birmingham, Alabama; one brother, James Harold Barfield of Meridian , Mississippi; four grandchildren, Heather Stewart, Travis Stanley, Steven Stanley, and Madison Stanley; and three great-grandchildren, Braxton and Brayden Stanley, and Rhyan Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lewis and Mary Virginia Hatcher Barfield.

She is survived by her sister, Lucille Wood of Louisville; a brother, Jim (Ann) Wood of Louisville; three nephews, Jim (Deborah) Duncan, James (Renee) Wood, and Scott Wood; great nephews, Greg Duncan; and two great-nieces, Brandi Duncan (Josh) Herrington and Megan Wood.

Mrs. Bouchillon is survived by two daughters: Tara Aleta Puckett and husband, Ronnie, of Louisville, Mississippi, and Angie Webb and husband, Darrin, of Pelahatchie, Mississippi; three sons: Jimmy G. Bouchillon and wife, Judy; Michael J. Grady Leo McDonald,80, died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Hazlehurst. Visitation will be 5-8pm Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will be 2pm Thursday in the funeral home chapel with a one hour visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lakewood South.
Mr. McDonald was a native of Preston, MS, born August 4, 1930 to the late James Edgar McDonald and Lessie Donald McDonald. A longtime resident of Jackson, Mr. McDonald was retired as First Sergeant, serving in the Air Force, Army and National Guard for 36 years and also retired as Post Master from USPS. He was an umpire and referee for public and private school sports for over 40 years, a Mason and member of the Forest Hill Lodge and a past Worthy Patron for the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. McDonald was also a member of Raymond Road Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Eudean McDonald. Survivors include his sons Michael (Dixie) McDonald of Clinton and Larry (Tina) McDonald of Greer, SC; daughter Angela (Steve) Foote′ of Crystal Springs; brother Linwood McDonald of Meridian; sisters Leddie Hill of Collinsville, Maxine Gandy of D’Iberville and Joyce Sullivan of Louisville; 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Mr. John W. Kinard, 85, died Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. He served during World War II in North Africa and Italy, including the Battle of Monte Cassino. He was twice wounded, awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery under fire. With the war’s end, he returned to Starkville, Ms, where he met and married Mary Emma Gregg. On May 25th, they would have been married for 65 years. He was a retired welder, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Louisville He is survived by his wife, Mary Gregg Kinard; three sons, James Kinard of Ohio, Mike Kinard, of Louisville, MS, and John A. Mrs. Childress was born to Robert Henry and Ella Rebecca Rives Boyd on December 3, 1931. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Louisville, Mississippi and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper and the owner of Childress Appliances and Repair. Mrs. Childress is survived by four sons: Wayne Childress and wife, Bertha, of Aberdeen, Mississippi; Mike Childress and wife, B. J., of Columbia, Mississippi; Robbie Childress and wife, Glenda; and Andy Childress all of Louisville, Mississippi; two brothers, Lamar Boyd and wife, Jeanette, of Longview, Mississippi and Eddie Boyd of Louisville, Mississippi; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phariest Childress; her parents, Robert Henry and Ella Rebecca Rives Boyd; and one brother, Robert Henry Boyd, Jr.

Mrs. Martha Woodward Daly, 81, died Wednesday, January 12th, 2011, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, Jan. 15th, at Louisville Presbyterian Church, with Minister Nathan Eldridge officiating. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery. Due to frozen and burst pipes in the Louisville Presbyterian Church, the visitation will be at Porter Funeral Home from 10 AM until 12 Noon on Saturday. Funeral services will be at the church at 1:00 PM as originally announced. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Daly was born July 4, 1929, in Louisville, MS. She was retired personnel director of Spartus Corp, and was a member of Louisville Presbyterian Church. She was an avid supporter of Mississippi State University sports, and loved animals, especially her dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Ettie Mae Woodward, and two brothers, David Woodward and Roland Woodward.
She is survived by her husband, Rudy Daly of Louisville; a sister, Sue (Ralph) Walker of Lenexa, KS; a brother, Johnny (Barbara) Woodward of Louisville, MS; nephews, Wade Woodward, Mark Woodward, Scott (Sarah) Woodward, John Woodward, Dr. Davis (Haley) Woodward, Dr. Doug (Angelia) Woodward; and nieces, Wanda (Steve) New, Martha Claire Woodward, and Karen Blatchford.

Kaye Livingston McDaniel


Mrs. Kaye Livingston McDaniel, 52, died Sunday, January 9, 2011, while on a cruise in the Caribbean. Funeral services have not been set at this time. Interment will be in Bevil Hill Cemetery. Kaye was born August 26, 1958 in Louisville, MS. She was a proud graduate of Louisville High School class of 76, and received her B.S. and Master degrees from Mississippi State University. She had been a caring and dedicated educator at schools in Newton, Choctaw and Winston counties before retiring as Counselor at Louisville High School. Kaye believed strongly in education and sponsored 2 scholarships in memory of her parents at Louisville High School and Winston Vocational School. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Ricky McDaniel of Louisville, step-son Rick McDaniel (Sheryl) of Washington D.C.; step-daughter Misty Stoy of St. Amant, LA; 3 grand-daughters Kati Lynn and Londyn Stoy, and Erin McDaniel; a sister Darlyne (Wayne) Cullwell of Louisville, MS, and nieces Peggy Skinner and Kathy Robertson. She also leaves behind several students and former students that she considered her children. Mrs. Lucille Anderson, 83, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Saturday, January 8, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, California, with Rev. Dan Frakes officiating. Mrs. Anderson was born September 29, 1927, to Philip and Angeline Deporter Vincent. She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Wise and husband, Dan, of Galt, California; Brenda Saubolle and husband, Paul, of Acampo, California; three sons, Jim Anderson and wife, Marilyn of Louisville, Mississippi, Greg Anderson and wife, Donna, of Marysville, Ohio, and Dennis Anderson and wife, Lynette, of Conon City, Colorado; 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Anderson.

Mrs. Ada Lee Moody, 82, passed away at Winston Health Care Nursing Home on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Saturday, January 8, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon. Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Hill officiating. Mrs. Moody was born March 17, 1928, to Andy and Bessie Kitchens Breedlove. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, the V. F. W. Auxiliary, and she was a department manager with Wal-Mart for 16 years.
Mrs. Moody is survived by two sisters, Ruby Green and husband, Glentis, and Lucille Edwards and husband, Billy, all of Louisville, Mississippi; one brother, Rudolph Breedlove of Starkville, Mississippi; one sister-in-law, Annie Jean Graham and husband, Malcolm, of Texas; one brother-in-law, Dan Moody and wife, Shirley, of Georgia; special family, Ricky and Rita Calloway, Heather Calloway Smith, and Hope Calloway Turnage all of Pearl, Mississippi; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Prentiss Moody; her parents, Andy and Bessie Kitchens Breedlove; and one brother, David Breedlove.

Fern Baxter King

Fern Baxter King, age 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 2nd, 2011. Visitation will be held at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville, MS, Tuesday, January 4th, from 9am to 11am. Immediately following visitation, funeral services will be held at the funeral home. Fern Baxter was born in Mason, TN, the daughter of the late Don and Carrie Baxter. She attended Whitworth College in Brookhaven, MS in 1939. She married Eugene R. King in 1940 and as a devoted wife, loved and supported him in his business and civic interests. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church for many years, participating in the Methodist Young Adult group and the Ed Livingston Sunday School Class. She was one of the founders of the Methodist Young Adult Fellowship and was one of the first to serve in the Bertha Kennett Memorial Library. She was a great supporter of North Mississippi Emmaus and Methodist Foreign Missions. In 1993, she was named Woman of the Year of Winston County. She will be most remembered as a beloved mother, a cherished grandmother and great grandmother who devoted her life to her family. Fern had an outgoing personality. She will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched. Fern Baxter King is survived by her daughters Peggy King Yarbrough and husband Daniel “Moe” of Louisville, MS and Linda King Dunnaway and husband Danny of Brookhaven, MS; grandchildren, Scott Ray and wife Dawn, Amanda M. Clark and husband Wesley, and Andrew Dunnaway and wife Aimee Primeaux; great grandchildren, Abby and Laney Ray, Michael and Emily Majors, and Nola and Baxter Dunnaway. She was known as Mimi to Danny, Angela, Elizabeth Ann and Daniel Yarbrough, Steven, Paige, Mary Cannon, Ellie, and James Yarbrough, and Rob, Amy and R. J. Landry also. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Eugene R. King, her grandson David E. Dunnaway and two brothers Durwood and Russell Baxter.
