George Marvil Williamson

George Marvle Williamson, age 86, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Southern Middle Tennessee Regional Medical Center in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Funeral services will be 12 noon Wednesday, May 1, at Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Gordy and Rev. Jerry Lundy officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10 a.m. until service time at Harmony Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Marvle was born May 6, 1932, to George Calvin and Mary LizieBeth Crocker Williamson in Winston County. He was a dedicated member of Harmony Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for the last 52 years. He thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Senior Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. Marvle was a 1952 graduate of Calhoun High School and worked as a welder at Taylor Machine Works in Louisville. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. One of his most fun “responsibilities” as a grandparent was to teach each grandchild how to drive a stick shift! He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Army.

Marvle is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Reed Williamson of the Nanih Waiya Community; and his daughter Melissa Gordy and husband Rev. Tony Gordy of Lawrenceburg. One of his greatest joys was being “Daddy Marvle” to his grandchildren: Melodie and Brett Ellis; Joshua “Buck” and Kayla Gordy; and Michelle and Zach Davis. He also leaves behind to mourn his passing five great-grandchildren: Emma Gordy, Trenton Brown, Alayla Baxter, Vinny Tibbs, and Marshall Tibbs. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Roger Melvis Williamson; and his sister Otene Virginia Stafford.

Serving as pallbearers are Mark Beasley, Steve Blackwell, Zach Davis, Brett Ellis, Joshua “Buck” Gordy, Jerry Kemp, Ricky Morgan, and Brian Stafford. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Harmony Baptist Church and members of the Senior Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. The family requests that memorials be given to Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o David Holder, 11755 Highway 397, Louisville, MS 39339 or to Deerfield Baptist Church Building Fund, 4200 Waynesboro Highway, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464.
