Funeral services for Dian Belk Hemphill will be held Friday, January 12, 2024, at 11 a.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Arrie Fulton officiating. Burial will follow in Neshoba Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 for 9 a.m. until service time at McClain-Hays Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hemphill, 73, of Louisville, MS died Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Dian was a native of Neshoba County and worked at Midland Shirt Factory for several years and at Williams Brothers. She loved training race horses with her first husband, Dolphus, and continued after his passing and she traveled to different states while training the horses. She enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Hemphill was a member of Crystal Ridge Baptist Church in Winston County, where she taught Sunday School.

Survivors include her husband, Perry Hemphill of Louisville; daughter, Pamela Belk Lovern (Jason) of Philadelphia; grand-daughter, Hannah Adams of Philadelphia; step-daughter, Jennifer Collins (Jimmy) of Jasper, AL; step-son, Chris Hemphill (Carol) of Louisville; step-grandchildren, Jonah Collins, Ashley Duncan, Mollie Lovern and Chance Lovern; six great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Pettey; brothers, Larry, Ricky, Danny Ray, Randy and Marty Long; half-brothers, Josh and Jeff Long; and a host of nieces, nephews and their families.

Mrs. Hemphill was preceded in death by first husband, Dolphus Belk; her parents, Lester and Lillie Mae Peebles Long; and half-brother, Jesse Long.

Pallbearers, Justin Long, Ty Long, Eric Long, Dylan Long, Chris Long, Richard Johnson, Stacey Johnson and Michael Pettey.

Robert Lee “Bob” Combs, III

Robert Lee “Bob” Combs, III, 71, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at his home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 13, at 11:00 a.m. in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mark Mayo officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 9 a.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow the service in Murphy Creek Cemetery.

Bob was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on May 14, 1952, to Robert Lee Combs, Jr. and Frances Lewis Combs. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from Mississippi State University. In 1974, he moved to Louisville to work at Georgia-Pacific Corporation, where he worked until 1985. For several years, he worked as a consultant in the forestry industry. He loved his farm and all things outdoors. In 1999, he became the owner of Ward Farm Service and through his business, he helped many in the community with their farming needs developing close friendships.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Beverly Jackson Combs; and his children: Beth Combs Stoots and Robert Lee Combs, IV, (Haley Moore) all of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “Daddy Bob” to his grandchildren: Roper Stoots and Brayleigh Stoots. He is also survived by two sisters: Connie Combs Templeton (Chip) of Starkville, Mississippi; and Phyllis Combs Miller (Stanley) of Knoxville, Tennessee; his niece, Kara Templeton Herman; three nephews: Trey Templeton, Jeremy Miller and Luke Miller; and his brother-in-law, Bruce Jackson. Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

Serving as pallbearers are Roper Stoots, J. R. Stoots, Trey Templeton, Austin McDaniel, Casey Smith, and Charlie McCorkle. Honorary pallbearers are Duane Culpepper, Freddy Fulcher, Glenn Hickman, Quentin Hill, Ricky Miller, Bobo Ming, Gene Reed, and Robert Warner.

Edwin A. Blake

Edwin Arnold Blake of Ackerman, MS, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Merit Health River Region Hospital in Vicksburg, MS. Edwin was born on May 3,1937 in Ackerman, MS to Arnold G. and Ethel (Harris) Blake. He was 86 years old. Edwin worked for Hollis Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning for over 60 years.

Funeral services will be held at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held prior to service time starting at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery in Ackerman, MS.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Anita Kay (Weeks) Blake of Ackerman, MS; a daughter, Connie (Tim) Badgwell; two sons, Dan (Iris) Blake of Carthage, MS and John (Terri) Blake of Starkville, MS; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold G. and Ethel (Harris) Blake; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.

Marilyn P. Morgan

Mrs. Marilyn Parkerson Morgan, 78, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 13, at First Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Mississippi, with Rev. Heath Cross and Dr. Robert Schwanebeck, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home and Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Interment will be immediately following the service in Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery in the Panhandle Community of Choctaw County.

Marilyn was born in New Orleans, LA, on July 25, 1945, to Marye and Sam Parkerson. Raised in New Orleans, Metairie, and Vicksburg, she graduated from All Saints’ Episcopal School in Vicksburg, MS, in 1963. Marilyn attended Millsaps College for one year before transferring to Mississippi State University where she met her future husband. She graduated from MSU with an education degree in French. She married her husband, Frank, and they settled in Louisville to work and start a family. She taught French at Winston Academy before taking over as bookkeeper for Blon-Harris Hardware Store on Main Street. In 1976, Marilyn was asked to take over and teach the kindergarten class at First Presbyterian Church. In 1979, she was hired to teach first grade at Louisville Elementary School where she remained for the next twenty-five years until her retirement in 2004. Marilyn was a dedicated Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Louisville Music Club, and served for years as a summer volunteer at the Winston County Library. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the 2014 Winston County tornado, Marilyn spent countless hours at City Hall and other Louisville locations helping displaced families get assistance and file claims. She was an extremely active member of First Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir, served as President of the Women in the Church multiple times, and faithfully served as church historian for many years. Marilyn was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing and embroidering special items for births, special events, holidays, and her granddaughter’s dog! 

She is survived by her two daughters Jennifer Morgan of Hattiesburg, MS, and Susan Tanner (Raymond) of Madison, MS, granddaughter Caroline Tanner, brother Russell Parkerson (Gail) of Hattiesburg, MS, sister-in-law Anne Christopher of Columbus, MS, and multiple nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her parents Marye and Sam Parkerson, her brother and sister-in-law, Jane and Sam Parkerson, Jr., and brother-in-law Dick Christopher.

Pallbearers will be Russell Parkerson, John Woodward, Keith DePriest, Evan Llewelyn, Richard Christopher, III, and Richard Christopher, IV. Honorary Pallbearers are Davis Woodward and Kiley Kirk.

Arthur D. Ray

Mr. Arthur Duane Ray, 82, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, at his home in Louisville, MS.

Mr. Ray was born January 31, 1941, in Washington. He was retired from sales in the fishing industry, having worked as a teamster and dock worker. He is a U. S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and Vernet Ray; a sister, Linda Freitas; brothers, Ken Ray and Jimmy Ray; his adopted family members, Eva Yarbrough, Pearl Daniels, Hayse Long, James Yarbrough, Rita Dollarhide, Thadis Yarbrough, Ann Ward, Mae Hemphill, and Richard Yarbrough.

He is survived by a sister, Paula Bright of San Jose, CA; brothers, Raymond Ray of Jacksonville, FL, and Richard Ray of San Jose, CA; and his adopted family, Marie McCullough of Jackson, MS, John Yarbrough of Philaselphia, MS, Harrell Yarbrough, and Freddy Yarbough, both of Louisville, MS.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Annie Washington

Ms. Annie Washington, 72, of Louisville, Mississippi, passed on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Starkville Manor, Starkville, MS. Thelma B Gregory

Thelma B Gregory, 89, of Louisville, Mississippi, passed on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024 at the Louisville Health Care Center, Louisville, MS. Billy W. Clark

Billy W. Clark, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024, at his home in Winston County, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 15, 1938, to Bennie Clark and Zola Steed Black. He was a dedicated member of Liberty Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish whenever he got the chance. He and his wife, Winnie Faye, were business owners and operators of Clark Grocery in Winston County for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Winnie Faye, his daughters, Cynthia Kay Clark and Elizabeth Lynn (Jimmy) Alexander; and his son, Chris (Stacey) Clark. One of his greatest joys was being “Paw “Paw” to his four grandchildren that he loved dearly: Kayla, Cole (Danielle), Amanda (Kent), and Cody. He also had a precious great-grandchild, Hadley Kate Clark, daughter of Cole and Danielle Clark. He is survived by his sister, Sherry Clark, his brothers, Lamar (Jamie) Clark, Jerry M. Clark, and Keith (Kathy) Clark; two sisters-in-law, Ann Clark and Crystal Clark; as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Walter and Gary Clark.

The family would like to give special thanks to Legacy Hospice for their outstanding care and support throughout this difficult time, especially thanks to: Mandy McDaniel, Kelsey White, Elise “Little Bit” Hood, Laura Claire Livingston, and Chaplin Tyler Hunt.

Bobby Zane Miller

“Breaker, Breaker, this is Tombstone headed out with the last load going home.”

Bobby Zane Miller, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in McCool, Mississippi, surrounded by family. Bobby Zane had many careers. He was a truck driver for 50 years, while also a farmer, logger, and café and pool hall owner in Weir, Mississippi. He loved to make a deal.

In his later years, he could always be found sitting in his truck by the side of the road checking on the animals, and chatting with friends who would stop to talk. He loved a good western, and always had the western channel playing on the TV except for short breaks for the weather report.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Kitty Sue Miller, to whom he was married for 58 years before her passing; son, Jimmy H. Miller; parents, Noble and Ruth Miller; brother and sister-in-law, Bo and Dot Miller; and numerous close friends he considered family.

Bobby Zane is survived by his sons, Johnny Miller (Nancy), Bobby Miller, Jr., and daughters, Susan Lishman and Teresa Facemire. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Rebecca Croft (Nathan), Johnny “Jack” Miller, II (Chelsea), Melissa Blakely (Alex), Amanda Jaynes (Justin), Kristen Lishman, Zane Facemire (Jessie), and Salaste Payden; as well as his great-grandchildren: Thomas Croft, Simon Croft, Natalie Miller, Johnny Miller, III, Adelina Miller, Clayton Conn, Cameron Conn, McKenzie Dodge, Emma Jaynes, John Curtis Jaynes, Landon Thomas, Harley Frost, Hudson Frost, Jordyn Facemire, Levi Fisher, Sterlin Fisher, Aniyah Murphy, Alana Payden. Bobby Zane also leaves behind his sister-in -law, Joan McDaniel; his nieces, Ann Fillingim, Carol Hemphill, Cheryl McDaniel, Vickie Bowlin, and his nephew, Kevin McDaniel.

Willie Joe White

Johnny Earl Richardson

Mr. Johnny Earl Richardson, 60, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at his home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 9th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Jay Watson and Mr. Willie Edmonds officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at Porter Funeral Home. Interment will be in Welcome Chapel Church Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Johnny was born September 24, 1963, in Louisville, MS, to Jack Alton Richardson and Mary Frances Chambers Richardson. He was a graduate of Louisville High School, and was a machinist for Taylor Machine Works for 26 years. Johnny was an avid hunter, and loved spending time in the outdoors, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Melinda Johns Richardson of Louisville; children, Kendra Johns, Leslie Lauren Richardson, Anna Frances Richardson, and Robert Johns, all of Louisville; a sister, Dale Richardson of Louisville, and six grandchildren, C. J. Hagan, Marlei Hagan, Trace Edwards, Ace Edwards, Austin Wayne Johnson, and Clayton Eli Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Pete Richardson, Tommy Ware, C. J. Hagan, Robert Johns, John Dempsey, B. J. Quinn, and Steve Allen.

Larry Wayne Peavy

Larry Wayne Peavy, 69 of Columbus, formerly of Louisville, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, at his home after a brief illness.

He was born, May 10, 1955, in Kosciusko, MS to the late John and Alma Odom Peavy. Larry started as a teenager working in the meat market with his older brother before moving to Louisville and becoming the Meat Market Manager at Louisville Piggly Wiggly before becoming the store manager.
After the tornado in Louisville in 2014, Larry and his wife, Delisa relocated to Columbus, and began working at Sunflower Grocery Store in the meat market until his health began to decline when he was forced to retire. He enjoyed spending his retirement with fur buddy, Max. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delisa Metts Peavy, a sister, Ann Peavy Moore, a brother, Joe Peavy, a great-granddaughter, Regan Peavy, and his parents.

Survivors include his son, Anthony (Kristy) Peavy, Huntsville, AL; daughter, Brandy (James) Blanton, Louisville, MS; brother, Johnny (Dorothy) Peavy, Kosciusko, MS, brother in law, Bud Moore, and sister-in-law, Alice George, grandchildren, Chelsea Peavy, Dylan (Merissa) Peavy, Charleigh Blanton, and one great-granddaughter, Cheyanne James.

Visitation will be Monday, January 8, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Dowd officiating. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 pm.

Donald Paul Starnes

Donald Paul Starnes passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Don was born on July 11, 1944, in Webster County, Mississippi, to Mr. Cay Starnes and Mrs. Addie McBride Starnes. Don married his wife of 57 years, Bettie Livingston Starnes, on May 21, 1966. He attended Evergreen Baptist Church.

Mr. Starnes was a 1962 graduate of Weir Attendance Center. In 1965, he proudly joined the United States Air Force and was deployed in 1968 during the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart. After returning home, Don continued a career in the military serving in both the United States Air Force and the Mississippi Air National Guard. During that time he received many certifications and degrees, as well as many accolades for his time of service.

After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife to many places including his favorite place to visit, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Don filled much of his time with his grandsons as they were his pride and joy. When he was not traveling or spending time with family, he was doing his favorite pastimes of drinking coffee, reading, watching westerns, or cutting grass.

Funeral services for Mr. Starnes will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 10 AM at Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robin Risher officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Mr. Starnes is survived by his wife, Bettie Livingston Starnes; two sons, Paul (Tracie) and David (Emily); three grandsons, Cole, Chance, and Dillan; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Harper; sisters, Opal Prewitt of Texas, Mamie Dickerson of Ackerman, and Saundra Wright of Ackerman; and brothers, Howard Starnes of Louisiana and Bill Starnes of Ackerman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Vera Lois Henderson, Mildred Ballard, Eunice Crittenden, Barbara Starnes, Bessie McMillian, and Mary Ann Hirose; and brothers, Harold Starnes, Larry Starnes, and Randy Starnes.

Christinna Ann Popec

Christinna Ann Popec, 51, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in Louisville, Mississippi. Christi was born October 3, 1972, to Carl Noel and Peggy Ann Crummy Stokes in Louisville. She was a member of Vernon Church. Christi enjoyed watching Ole Miss football and wrestling. She also enjoyed arts and crafts especially scrapbooking and journaling. Christi dearly loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. She also deeply loved the children that she had the pleasure of babysitting.

Christi is survived by her children: Adam Carl Popec, Morgan Ann Popec (Kelcey), and Jasmine Leigh Popec (Matthew). She also leaves behind her father, Carl Noel Stokes; her sister, Carla Holdiness (Joey); nephews, Drew Holdiness (Sydney) and Trevor Holdiness; niece, Madison Womble (Dalton); and great-niece and great-nephews, Annistyn and Jett Womble, and Boden Holdiness. She is also survived by her loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Christi is preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Ann Stokes; and her brother, Carvel Ray Stokes.

Benjaman Hendrix Gatlin

Benjaman Hendrix Gatlin of Starkville, MS, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, MS. Ben was born May 25, 1959 in Starkville, MS to Willie J. and Isabel (Cornish) Gatlin. He was 64 years old.

Funeral services will be held at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held prior to service time starting at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at Mt. Airy Cemetery near Ackerman, MS.

Ben is survived by his two daughters, Kari Williams of French Camp, MS and Tiffany Peeples of Ackerman, MS; his brother, JW Gatlin of Red Oak, TX; his sister, Mary Gatlin of Tupelo, MS; and 5 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie J. and Isabel (Cornish) Gatlin.

Jeff Long

Funeral services for Mr. Jeff Long will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 2, 2023, at John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. John E. Stephens officiating. Interment will be in Bond Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until 11 AM Tuesday, January 2, 2023 at John E. Stephens Chapel.

Mr. Long, 62, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at his home in Winston County. He lived most of his life in Neshoba and Winston County, and he attended Bond Baptist Church. He worked for Taylor Machine Works for 30 years. His hobbies were being outdoors and riding his side by side. He was very witty, and liked to have fun and joke around, but he also had a big heart and was always there to lend a hand to anyone.

Mr. Long is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas A. Long and Frances McKay Long.

Survivors include his brothers, Terry Long and Bill Long both of Winston County, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jonathan Clay Mason

Jonathan Clay Mason, formerly of Ackerman, MS, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the University Of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada, MS. Clay was born January 22, 1981, in Ackerman, MS to Robert H. Mason, Jr, and Bonnie (Carpenter) Mason. He was 42 years old.

Memorial funeral services will be held for Clay on Sunday, January 7, 2024, 2:00 p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS with private graveside services following at a later date and time at Bethsaida Baptist Church Cemetery near French Camp, MS.

Clay is survived by his mother Bonnie (Carpenter) Mason of Louisville, MS and his brother Glenn Mason of Sturgis, MS. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother Neva Glenn Mason of Kilmichael, MS and numerous aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father; Robert H. Mason, Jr., and his paternal grandfather Robert H. Mason, Sr., as well as his maternal grandparents Buddy and Jean Carpenter.
