Ms. Judye Carol Bateman, 68, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at her home in the Nanih Waiya community. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, August 11th, at Vernon Assembly of God, with Rev. Eugene Duran and Rev. Gerald Branum officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Assembly of God Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and Friday from 12:00 P.M. until the service time at the church. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Judye was born December 30, 1948, in Winston County, MS. She was a graduate of Nanih Waiya High School, and an Occupancy Specialist at Louisville Housing Authority. She was a member of Vernon Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her father, James Paul Bateman.

She is survived by her daughter, Angie Hathorn; her mother, Marion Robertson Bateman, both of Louisville; and numerous cousins.

Pallbearers will be Ty Higginbotham, Charner Estes, Manley Peterson, Chanley McDaniel, Zach Hanna, Lane Hanna, Chandlor Swearingen, and Tanner Covington. Memorials may be made to the Vernon Assembly of God Cemetery Fund, c/o Junior Robertson, 7379 Hwy 490, Louisville, MS 39339.

Jeannette Marie Jauch

Jeannette Marie was born to Canadian immigrants, Alfred and Auria Thibault on June 13, 1934 in Winsted, CT. When she was a teenager, a young man in the clock factory where she was working bet a fellow co-worker he could get a date with "that pretty girl" working on the assembly line. He won the bet (and her heart) and on February 9, 1952, Jeannette and Christian Jauch were married. They soon welcomed a son, Christian Jr., in 1953 and a daughter, Kathy, in 1956,

In 1965, they loaded up the kids and all their possessions in the old black Studebaker (often referred to as The Batmobile) and left Connecticut to start a new adventure 1300 miles away in Louisville, MS. Many happy years were spent there before work would again move them. First to Illinois, then to Lawrence MS, then to New Jersey, until finally coming back home to Louisville where they have lived since 1985.

Mrs. Vowell was born October 29, 1953 in Winston County, MS. Sallie was the owner and operator of Vowell’s Country One Stop for over 27 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Pearl Smith Griffith and Joseph Bryan Griffith.

She is survived by her husband, Travis Vowell of Louisville, MS; her daughter, Daphne (Haley) Ward of Louisville, MS; her son, Taylor (Tiffany) Vowell of Brandon, MS; one granddaughter, Laura Katherine Ward; and four brothers, Horace Griffith of Meridian, MS, Richard Griffith of Oxford, MS, J.B. Griffith of Starkville, MS, and Joe Griffith of West Point, MS.

Sylvia Raven Clark

Sylvia Jeannine Smyth Raven Clark passed away on July 20, 2017 at her home. Sylvia was the daughter of the late Ruby Vanlandingham Smyth and Sylvester Hays Smyth and was born in Louisville on March 26, 1929. She graduated from Louisville High School in 1947. Upon graduation, Sylvia began working at Taylor Machine Works as personal secretary to W.A. Taylor, Sr., and was in charge of accounts receivable. She was employed there for 14 years. Sylvia married James Harold (Happy) White on November 18, 1949. In 1961 she began working with her parents and her aunt and uncle as Secretary of Lake Tiak O’Khata and was an integral part of the growth and success of the family business. Sylvia retired from the business in 1996. She was a founding board member of Winston Academy and served on the board for 10 years. Sylvia was very instrumental in the creation and early stages of the school. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Her three children were her proudest accomplishment. She was a very loving and caring mother passionate about her son and two daughters. Her children’s health and happiness were what mattered most to her throughout her life. As a single working mother of three, she made the best of her situation and always managed to be an exceptional parent. After working all day and into the night she would be there for her children. She was the best listener a child could ask for. Her children loved her deeply and will miss her very much.

Ronnie "Bulldog" Coleman


Ronald Dwight Coleman ("Bulldog"), 64 years old, of Sturgis, MS, passed away on July 20, 2017 at his home with family by his side.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 26, 2017, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Sturgis, Mississippi. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Robertson, Junior Davis, and Charles Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Craig Springs Cemetery.

Ronnie was born in Sturgis to Bilbo and Estelle Coleman on February 5, 1953. He was a graduate of Sturgis High School and had attended Hinds Jr College. He married Diane Warner on August 26, 1978 in Louisville, MS. He was the assistant foreman at Mississippi State University, Physical Plant, where he was a welder/plumber for approximately 28 years before retiring.

Ronnie is preceded in death by parents Bilbo & Estelle Coleman, sister Kate Hood, brother in law Clyde Wallace, and nephew Stacey Brunt.

Ronnie is survived by wife Diane Coleman, daughter Nicole Coleman (Sturgis), siblings Jean McCarthy and Bill (Florida), Travis "Bud" Coleman and Martha Lynn (Sturgis), Peggy Wallace (Louisville), and several nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Coleman, Scott Coleman, Stan Coleman, Tommy Coleman, Sterling Lewis, Ronnie Massey, Daniel Peacock, and Ricky Scarbrough.

Honorary Pallbearers include the men in Ronnie's Sunday School class, as well as Alfred Coleman, Grady Wayne Coleman, Wendall Jackson, Paul Massey and Aubrey Ray.

Memorials may be given to Kindred Hospice at www.KindredGentivaHospiceFoundation.org. Also, there are memorial envelopes available in the front vestibule of the church.

Thomas E. Madison

Thomas E. Madison, 67, of Coeur d’Alene, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, July
14, 2017, in his Coeur d’Alene home. The son of John and Shirley Madison, Tom was born Dec. 19, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minn. He grew up in Bloomington, Minn., with his three brothers and three sisters.

Tom enlisted in the U.S. Marines on July 27, 1967, at the age of 17. He served his country in Vietnam at Dong Ha from 1967-1969. After leaving the military, Tom moved to Coeur d’Alene where he gave his life to Christ on July 27, 1971. Shortly after, he met his wife, Connie, at the Antioch Coffeehouse and they were married on Feb. 16, 1974.

Tom and Connie settled in Dalton Gardens, with Tom building their first home on their acre of land. Tom spent many hours cultivating an orchard, gardening and over his lifetime built three homes. After 13 years of working the green chain at Potlatch-Rutledge Mill in Coeur d’Alene, Tom returned to school and became an RN. He worked for more than 25 years as an ICU nurse. Tom was a family man and loved raising his three children with Connie. He was deeply committed to Christ and delighted in worshiping with his church family. He was — kind, creative, patient, practical, productive, witty, honest and always faithful.
