Troy Lee Williamson

Mr. Troy Lee Williamson, 89, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Prattville Health and Rehab in Prattville, AL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 19th, at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville, MS, with Dr. Gayle Pope officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10: A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Poplar Flat Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Williamson was born February 22, 1929, in the Nanih Waiya community of Winston County. He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Mississippi, and earned his Doctorate in Education from Mississippi State University. He taught science in public schools in Choctaw and Winston counties, and retired as Dean of East Mississippi Community College in Scooba. He was a faithful member of Poplar Flat Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon, as well as singing in the choir.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Tressie Ellis Williamson; his parents, Marie and Munch Williamson; and a sister, Earline Martin.

He is survived by his son, Donald, and wife Anita Williamson of Montgomery, AL; a grandson, Jonathan, and wife Caitlin Williamson of Austin, TX; a sister, Erma Ruth (Doug) Wilkerson of Pulaski, MS; and two brothers, Aron (Rebecca) Williamson of Louisville, and James M. (Dixie) Williamson of Clinton, MS.

Pallbearers will be Keith Clark, Malcolm Williamson, Bryan Williamson, Gary Martin, Tim Denton, and Larry Cockrell.

Memorials may be made to either the Poplar Flat Cemetery Fund, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
