Ronnie Johns


Mr. Ronnie “Coon” Johns, 76, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville with Rev. Wayne Hill and Rev. Taylor Yarbrough officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery.


Ronnie was born July 5, 1940, to Ozell and Mary Iva McCully Johns. He is a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. “Coon” worked as a welder at Taylor Machine Works for 47 years. After retiring in May, 2009, he went home to enjoy his gardening and woodworking hobbies; and he loved his pets dearly.

Mr. Johns is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jill Johns; his daughter, Mary Ann Johnson and husband, Berry; and his son, Ronnie G. “Buzzy” Johns all of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “Granddaddy” to his five grandchildren: Leighanne King, Shey Tate, Casey Johnson, Michael Johns, and Barley Johns. He is also survived by five great-grandsons: Bryce, Bentley, and Talan King; Brodie Tate; and Luca Johnson. “Coon” is also survived by his brother, Tommie Johns, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his granddaughter, Kristi Johnson.

Serving as pallbearers are Danny Johns, Glenn Johns, Joey Johns, Michael Johns, Scottie Johns, and Gus Papalambros. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Baskin, Billie Davis, and Donny McCully. Memorial contributions in honor of Mr. Johns may be given to Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 230 Evergreen Church Road, Louisville, MS 39339.
