Joe Thomas Culpepper


Joseph Thomas “J. T.” Culpepper, 88, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehab Center in Byram, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Rook and Rev. Floyd Prisock officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 3:30 p.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Following military honors and Masonic Rites, interment will follow in New Hope Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Culpepper, a Winston County native, was born on October 16, 1926, to Hannie Bea (Hill) and Charles Culpepper. He later moved to Raymond, Mississippi, and made that area his home for many years. Mr. Joe was a retired inspector with Armstrong World Industries. During World War II, he answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Navy. Mr. Joe, a 60-year member of Louisville Lodge #75, was a Master Mason.

Mr. Culpepper is survived by his daughter, Linda Hill and husband, Delbert, of Jackson, Mississippi; his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Eaves Culpepper; and by three sisters: Ruby Jean Hurt of Byram, Mississippi; Frances Garretson and husband, Delbert; and Patricia Roberson and husband, Leon, all of Louisville. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Jennifer Hill; Kristian Hill; Delbert Hill, III and wife, Tiffany; Katherine Culpepper; and Laura Davis and husband, Chris. Mr. Joe also had six great-grandchildren: Maddison Lawrence, Hadyn Lawrence, Rylea Kate Hill, Stella Hill, Eva Davis, and Noah Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Culpepper; his son, Terry Joe Culpepper; grandson Andrew Culpepper; his parents; and his sister, Geraldine Prisock and husband, Leonard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Garretson, Tim Garretson, Delbert Hill III, Kevin Prisock, Jimmy Roberson, Brent Smith, Bruce Smith, and Ronald Smith. Memorials may be given to Crystal Ridge Baptist Church, c/o Amanda Eaves, 2305 Crystal Ridge Road, Louisville, MS 39339.
