Mr. Charles C. Kupis, 77, died on December 30 at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home following a brief illness. A graveside memorial service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Louisville at 10 a.m., on Thursday, December 31.
His entire life Mr. Kupis was affectionately known by friends and family alike by the nickname “Turkey.” He was born in Scranton, PA, on November 30, 1943, and was a graduate of Louisville High School and attended East Central Community College.
“Turkey” was employed by both U.S. Motors in Philadelphia as well as Taylor Machine Works in Louisville. He was a veteran of military service and served his country as a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard’s 155th Armored Brigade. In 1990, he and fellow members of the Brigade were mobilized during The Gulf War. He has an avid fan of the Ole Miss Rebels in whatever athletic events they were competing. He also was an accomplished contract bridge player.
Mr. Kupis is survived by his sister, Coco Lampley Regan (Joel) of Kosciusko and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Schafler of Mountain View, Arkansas and by his parents, Charles D. Kupis and Ellen Lampley.
Serving as pallbearers are Ralph Clark, Giles Ward, Bobby Baker, Christopher Baker, Terry Kelly and Larry Veazey. Porter Funeral Home of Louisville is charge of arrangements.
