Merle Ruth Cook Jones, of Madison, passed on from this life on May 30, 2024 at the age of 95.
The second of four siblings, Merle was born in Matagorda, Texas on December 6, 1928 to the late Alfred Vogg Cook and Katherine Sue Yeamans Cook. She was a homemaker, caregiver, mother and doting grandmother. Blessed with a sweet, giving spirit, she was a great friend to many and the best mother-in law anyone would want. She had an ever-present appetite for good seafood, likely originating from time spent along Matagorda Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway as a child.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Max C. Jones, her parents and her siblings.
She is survived by her daughter Eileen McKenzie and husband Mike of Madison, MS. She was beloved as “Mamaw Jones” to Tyler McKenzie and wife Rebecca of Harvest, AL, Drew McKenzie of Madison, MS, Abigail McKenzie of Hattiesburg, MS, and Caden McKenzie of Madison, MS.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at South Union Methodist Church near Ackerman MS, with the Celebration of Life service immediately following. Burial will be in South Union Methodist Church Cemetery.
