Jimmy A. Black

Jimmy A. Black, 75, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at his home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 20 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverand Jay Murphy officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at the church from 1 p.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Shiloh Cemetery.

Jimmy was born in Winston County, Mississippi, on November 27, 1947, to Hosea and Elgie Mayo Black. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He retired from Georgia Pacific as a supervisor. Jimmy had a portable sawmill and he enjoyed sawing the lumber then making various things out of the wood. He was very talented in his wood working and could build anything. He loved being outdoors enjoying time with his animals and gardening.

Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Kathy Black Johnsey and husband, John, of Starkville, Mississippi; and his son, Barry A. Black and wife, Toni, of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “Pap Paw” to his grandchildren: Abi (Ford) Polk, Ivy Black, Natalie Jones, and Dalton Anthony. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Kay Mayo Black; his parents; and his sister, Carol Jean Black McCool.

Serving as pallbearers are Dalton Anthony, John Johnsey, David Mayo, Lamar Mayo, Kevin Stanley, and Chris VanLandingham.
