Irene was born on January 10, 1941, to William David and Betty Hamilton Collins in Winston County. She is a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Irene was an avid quilter who enjoyed the quilting retreats she shared with friends. She was a member of the Red Hills Quilters Guild, the Scrappers Quilting Guild, and the Mississippi Quilters Association (MQA). Not only was Irene a talented quilter, she also enjoyed painting and ceramics. Irene worked at Weyerhaeuser for many years and later she enjoyed working as a Poultry Farmer. She also loved to fish.
Irene is survived by her husband of 33 years Hershel Rogers; and her daughter Bettie Lewis and husband David. One of her greatest joys was being “Mamaw” to her grandson Chad Lewis (Austin Truhett). She is preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings: William Collins, Aquilla Mayo, Bernice Pace, Mary Ruth Rogers, Frank Collins, Eloise Divine, Nancy Chancellor, Michael Collins, and Earl Collins.
Serving as pallbearers are Chad Lewis, Austin Truhett, Aiden Collins, Louis Collins, John David Henderson, Andrew Logue, Cody Pace, and Roger Strickland. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Pace and Daniel Stokes. Memorials in honor of Irene may be given to Plattsburg Cemetery.
