Dewayne Rushing

Dewayne Rushing, age 66, passed away surrounded by his loving family Friday, February 14, 2020, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, February 16 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Bro. Jay Murphy officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 2 p.m. until service time at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment will immediately follow the service in Shiloh Cemetery.

Dewayne was born July 20, 1953, to A. V. and Mary Irene Conn Rushing. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Early in his working career, he drove a truck for Merchant Truck Lines; and for many years, he has driven for Suburban Propane Company delivering gas to many neighbors and friends. For the last 10 years, he has been a Customer Service Representative in the offices of Suburban Propane. Dewayne met the love of his life on March 2, 1974, on a blind date set up by a mutual friend. They both immediately knew that a life together “was meant to be!” Dewayne was known as “Pop” to all children even before he had grandchildren of his own. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to introduce any child to an assortment of outdoor activities such as horses and hunting. Loving the outside as he did, he very much enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. The best times of his life were spent spoiling his grandchildren and riding his orange 4-wheeler.

Dewayne is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Dianne Carter Rushing of Louisville; and two sons Jimmy Rushing and wife Candace of Louisville; and Jeremy Rushing and wife Addie of Statesboro, Georgia. Before he had children of his own, he loved Angie Griffin and husband Joey as his own daughter. One of his greatest joys was being “Pop” to his grandchildren: Rylee Martindale-Rushing, Hayes Daniel Rushing, and Finn Martindale-Rushing. Once again before he had grandchildren of his own, he enjoyed spoiling Jodie (Cody) Ross and Audrey (Alex) Chappell just as he has his grands! Jodie and Audrey gave him his “great-grandchildren” Griffin Ross and Charlee Claire Chappell both of whom he dearly loved. Dewayne is also survived by his sister Brenda Sue (Chuck) Coleman; and his brother James Wendall Rushing. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brother David Mitchell Rushing.

Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Rushing, Jeremy Rushing, Joey Griffin, Scott Doster, Lee Hardy, Jimmie Hogan, and Terry Triplett. Honorary pallbearers are Hayes Rushing, Finn Martindale-Rushing, Alex Chappell, and Cody Ross. Memorials in memory of Dewayne may be given to Shiloh Cemetery Fund, Methodist Rehab, or Mississippi Baptist Children’s Village.
