Vera Mozell Black Eubanks

Ms. Vera Mozell Black Eubanks, 90, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Griffith officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12 p.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rural Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Vera was born April 8, 1927, to William Lee Black and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Massey Black. She worked as a beautician for 55 years, where she met many wonderful and interesting people. She also loved flowers, all people, playing games, and gardening. As a member of Flowood Baptist Church, she greatly loved the Lord first of all and her family. After her passing, her granddaughter, Sherdonna, wrote: “She and I were very close and we had several conversations about her passing away. This pretty much sums up her thoughts. God wanted me now so He has brought me home. Don’t lengthen your heavy hearts with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share in my joy. Mom and I were with her when she passed away; a couple of hours before she passed away she was smiling and laughing in her sleep. Her heart was joyous. Let us all find comfort in knowing that she’s more alive now than she’s ever been.”

Ms. Eubanks is survived by her daughter, Sharon Chevalier Williams of Flowood, Mississippi; and three step-children: Barbara Warner and husband, Burr, of Louisville; Teresa Jo Chase and husband, Frank, of Brandon, Mississippi; and Herbert M. Eubanks and wife, Renae, of Wiggins, Mississippi; as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind three brothers: W. L. Black of Louisville; Quinton “Vernon” Black and wife, Katherine, of Eupora, Mississippi; and Billy Black of Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Eubanks; son, Ricky Lee Chevalier; brothers, Ernest Black and Bobby Dean Black; her parents; and step-mother, Lois Turner Black.

Serving as pallbearers are Barry Black, Carlos Black, Murry Lee Black, Max Chevalier, Trent Chevalier, James Morton, and Burr Warner. Memorial contributions in honor of Ms. Eubanks may be given to Rural Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Dale Shumaker, 12878 Highway 14 West, McCool, MS 39108.
