Shirley Burt Sharpe

Ms. Shirley Burt Sharpe, 77, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Winston Medical Center Hospital in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hubert Yates officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Noxapater, Mississippi.

Shirley was born March 12, 1939, in Neshoba County to Jim “Red” and Ethel Day Burt. She attended church at Noxapater Methodist Church and was a personal caregiver to many in Winston and Neshoba counties. Ms. Sharpe was an avid reader and an excellent cook.

Shirley is survived by two daughters, Mitzi Hodge and husband, Robert Brasher, of Sulphur, Louisiana; and Debra McClain of Bossier City, Louisiana; and her son, Keith Matzek and wife, Lori, of Louisville. She is also survived by two brothers, Jimmy Burt and wife, Eva, of Noxapater; and Harry Burt and wife, Pat, of Moss Bluff, Louisiana. One of her greatest joys was being a loving “Mammie” to her six grandchildren: Andy Broussard and wife, Michele; Curtis Hodge and wife, Mary; Chad Hodge; Jeremy Matzek and wife, Carmen; Kristin Knox; and Matthew Matzek; as well as five great-grandchildren: Lana and Ada Matzek; Evan Broussard; and Layken and Nathan Hodge. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Frances Davis and Carolyn Kelly; two brothers, Rusty and Bobby Burt; and a great-grandson, Levi Matzek.

Serving as pallbearers are Andy Broussard, James Burt, Chad Hodge, Curtis Hodge, Jeremy Matzek, and Matthew Matzek.
