Barbara "Barboo" Stringfellow

Barbara “Barboo” Stringfellow, 84, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. John Wilson officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at Calvary Baptist Church from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Camp Ground United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Barbara was born on October 16, 1931, to Everette and Ruby Allen Carter. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was involved in many activities such as teaching Sunday School for many years. She graduated from Mississippi University for Women and taught home economics for several years at Moss Point, Mississippi. After moving to Louisville, she was a homemaker. Barbara loved to work in her garden and in her flowers; she loved being outside for any outdoor activity. As a talented artist, she enjoyed drawing and painting. Barboo had a gentle, humble spirit; she was very private but always had a servant’s heart—putting others before herself.

Mrs. Stringfellow is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Lonnie Stringfellow of Louisville; and by three daughters, Robin Wood of Brandon, Mississippi; Traci Brock and husband, Steve, also of Brandon, MS and Cindy Crawley of Louisville. She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Ann Kaiser of Natchez, Mississippi; and Ruby Patricia Carter of Louisville. One of her greatest joys in life was being “Barboo” to her four grandchildren: Megan Withers and husband, Dr. James Withers; Matthew Young and wife, Missy; Cory Brock and wife, Heather; and Kelsey Brock. Also left to mourn the passing of “Barboo” are nine great-grandchildren: Anna-Young Withers; Eli Withers; Caroline Withers; Barbara Withers; Sarah Margrett Withers; Kody Young; Kylar Young; Ethan Brock; and Juliette Brock. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; and a special niece, Marie and Ronald Neal. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.

Serving as pallbearers are Steve Brock, Andy Kaiser, Mike Mitchell, Ronald Neal, James Withers, John Albert Young, and Matthew Young. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Men’s Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church. Memorial contributions in honor of Mrs. Stringfellow may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P. O. Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
