Joan McMinn

Joan McMinn, 86, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019, at The Bee Hive Home in Starkville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be Sunday, February 3 at 2 p.m. in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Mayo officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12 noon until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Interment will follow in Enon Cemetery in Ackerman, Mississippi.

Joan was born May 25, 1932, to Newman and Ocia Rollins Robinson, the youngest of 10 children. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville and was originally from Lebanon, Tennessee, where she met and married the love of her life, M. D. McMinn. She was a wonderful artist...she loved painting pictures, sewing, and crafts of any kind. Joan enjoyed working in her yard and was a member of the Town & Country Garden Club. Many times over the years her lawn was chosen as “Yard of the Month”. She was a devoted bridge player and a fantastic southern cook. She was also a member of the Extension Service Homemaker Club where she enjoyed activities involving crafts. Her most avid hobby was fishing which she gladly shared with her husband of 66 years.

Joan is survived by her children, Cindy McMinn Smith and husband, Tommy, of Sturgis; Marsha McMinn Gillespie and husband, David; and Jeff McMinn and wife, Kim, all of Louisville. She is also survived by her sister Mary Belle Kelly and a host of nieces and nephews. One of her greatest joys was being “Grandmother or GaGa” to her grandchildren: Summer Clark Hall (Jeff); Ryan Smith (Sara); Blake McMinn (Brittany); Landon McMinn (Amanda); Peyton McMinn and Tyson Tingle; as well as 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Duff “M. D.” McMinn; her granddaughter, Joanie Smith Tingle; her parents; and five brothers and four sisters.

Serving as pallbearers are Logan Danovsky, Jeff Hall, Blake McMinn, Landon McMinn, Ryan Smith, Lane Tingle, Tyson Tingle, and Wyatt Tingle.
