Hilda Dempsey

Hilda Dempsey, age 92, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, February 22, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 23, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Minnie Dempsey and Rev. Hank Dempsey officiating. Interment will follow in Welcome Chapel Jesus Name Church Cemetery. 

Hilda was born November 15, 1926, to George and Clara Hodge Worrell in Winston County. She was a member of Welcome Chapel Jesus Name Church. Hilda was a dedicated Christian lady who had enjoyed serving her Savior for 72 years; and she was a homemaker. She loved quilting, sewing, crocheting and working with her flowers.

Hilda is survived by her daughter Sherry Brown and husband Greg of Louisville; and her son Ralph Dempsey (Louise) of Kosciusko, Mississippi. She also leaves behind two sisters Frances (Fred) Breland of Hammond, Louisiana; and Lucy (Joe) Johnson of Canton, Mississippi; and her brother Roy (Dale) Worrell of Ridgeland, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Granny” to 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Norman H. “Bully” Dempsey; daughters Mavis Alexander and Norma Howard; son-in-law, William Alexander; her parents; two brothers James Warrell and Alton Warrell; and two sisters Hazel Pearson and Ruby Mae Scrivner.

Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Alexander, Toby Alexander, Kaden Barnett, Robin Barnett, Daniel Dempsey, and Paul David Howard.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sam Suttle and the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home Staff as well as Quality Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Hilda.
