Jewell S Chambliss

Jewel Chambliss, age 93, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Lundy officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 1 p.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Interment will follow in Mt. Hebron Methodist Cemetery.

Jewel was born August 23, 1925, to Arthur and Evie Edwards Seals in Winston County. She was a member of Mt. Hebron Methodist Church and was also active at Harmony Baptist Church. Jewel was a homemaker and she worked at Spartus Corporation for 10 years. She loved gardening, especially her prize tomato plants that she grew each year and working in her flowers. She was a very talented seamstress and could make any dress she saw on television or in a store without a pattern. Jewel was also known throughout the family and community for her delicious chicken and dumplings and cornbread dressing—her grandchildren feel no one else can cook these dishes as she did.

Jewel is survived by two daughters Beverly Quinn Jackson of Louisville and Kathleen Chambliss of St. Johns, Florida; and her son Charles David Chambliss of Hernando, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “MaMaw” to four grandchildren: Cliff (Angela) Chambliss; Shannon Quinn, Bridget (Joe) Hoover, and Steve Chambliss. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Chaney Arney, Charlie Anna Chambliss, Seth Arney, Chaz Chambliss, Jace Arney, Sawyer Chambliss, Kinley Hoover, and Noelle Chambliss. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Chambliss; her parents; one brother; and three sisters.

Serving as pallbearers are Jace Arney, Seth Arney, Chaz Chambliss, Cliff Chambliss, Steve Chambliss, and Joe Hoover. Honorary pallbearers are Curtis Quinn and Jimmy Reed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Mt. Hebron Methodist Cemetery, c/o Vicky Sanderson, 1484 Mt. Harmony Road, Preston, MS 39354.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers at the Elm Cottage, Dr. Dustin Gentry, and Quality Hospice for the excellent care they have provided to our mom and grandmother.

Services are under the direction of Nowell Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by signing the guest register at www.nowellmasseyfuneralhome.com.
