Shirley Weaver Ray

Shirley Weaver Ray, age 79 was born September 10, 1943, and passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Choctaw County Medical Center in Ackerman, MS. 

Shirley worked for 28 years at Georgia Pacific in Louisville, MS, as a secretary. Afterwards, she worked 10 years for Dr. Raymond Orgler, Sr. at Starkville, Mississippi and Louisville, Mississippi as his secretary.
She loved attending church, going to Eastern Star, reading, playing dominos, working outside, and being with her family.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Bertha King; three sisters, Judy Caviness of California, Betty King of Texas, Kathy Kellum of Calhoun City, MS; and her former husband, Rich Weaver of Ackerman, MS.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie B. “Buck” Ray, Jr. of Ackerman, MS; one son, William Tim “Billy Tim” Platt and friend, Margaret Jones, of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Lynelle (Smokey) Miles of Ackerman, MS, and Alicia (Jerry) Peters of Starkville, MS; two step-daughters, Paula (Michael) Moore of Ackerman, MS, and Pam (Steve) Sullivan of Preston, MS; one brother, William Roy (Penny) King of Tampa, FL; two grandsons, William Timothy, Jr. (Kyira) Platt of Levelland, TX, and Robert Collins of Sturgis, MS; one step-grandson, Brady (Angel) Clay of Maben, MS; two step-granddaughters, Stephanie (Trey) Hardin of Calhoun City, MS, Kristin (Justin) Hendricks of Preston, MS; great-grandchildren, Eilah Rain Platt, Ethyn Matthew Platt, Eilana Grace Platt of Levelland, TX, Aliza Collins of Mathiston, MS; step-great-grandchildren, Owen Hardin, Oakley Hardin, and Ava Burk Hardin of Calhoun City, MS, Kasey Clay of Ackerman, MS, Millie June Clay of Maben, MS, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held at Concord Baptist Church off Highway 15 near Ackerman, MS, on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., with burial at Chester Baptist Church. Visitation will be Friday night, September 1, 2023, from 5:30 till 7:30 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS, and from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Concord Baptist Church near Ackerman, MS.
