Herbert Randall Johnson

Herbert Randall Johnson, age 72, passed away on August 3 at his residence in Noxapater, Mississippi, after a six-year battle with cancer. He was born on April 24, 1951, in Winston County to Herbert and Cynthia Holman Johnson. He married the love of his life, Katherine (Kathy) Hanna Johnson, February 20, 1972.

A man of many passions, Randall enjoyed spending time outdoors, engaging in activities such as baseball, hunting, and farming. His dedication to his community and exceptional leadership skills were recognized when he was named Winston County Man of the Year in 2003 and Winston County Farmer of the Year in 1980, along with his brother Keith Johnson. He served his community as Winston County District 5 Supervisor for 12 years, on the Golden Triangle Planning and Development Board for 12 years, on the Stennis Institute Board for seven years, and later held the esteemed position of President of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors in 2003. Additionally, he devoted 17 years to serving on the Mississippi Prison Industries Board and served in government relations and business development for several ambulance services over the last 20 years. Randall's love for his family was evident throughout his life in the way he reared his three daughters and seven grandchildren.

Randall Johnson is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Hanna Johnson, and three loving daughters: Chasity Wells and her husband Chris, Penny Wells and her husband David, and Cynthia Hanna McCain and her husband Joseph. He will be remembered fondly by his seven cherished grandchildren: Anna Katherine Wells Woods and her husband Tyler, Abby Wells Battle and her husband Kooper, Chandler Wells, Johnson Wells, Ryker Wells, Eli McCain, and Hub McCain. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Riley Ann Woods and Bailey Kate Woods along with his sister, Betty McMillan.

Preceding him in death were his beloved brother, Billy Keith Johnson, and his parents, Herbert and Cynthia Holman Johnson.

Pallbearers at the funeral service will be: Chandler Wells, Johnson Wells, Ryker Wells, Eli McCain, Tyler Woods, Kooper Battle, Joe Johnson, Kenny McMullin, and James Flippin. Honorary pallbearers will be: E. L. Vowell, Joe Donovan, Glenn Crawford, Larry Hall, Ricky Pipkin, David Grayson, Stan Alford, Bobby Baker, Larry Richardson, Dave Sanford, Larry Swales, Dave Eldridge, and Hugh Hathorn.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 6 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Noxapater Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. at Noxapater Baptist Church following the visitation. Interment will be at Mount Caramel Cemetery in Noxapater.
