Audrey Lee Massey, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at The Claiborne in Starkville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 12 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Newlie Long and Rev. John Edward Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at the Nowell Massey Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery in Attala County.
Audrey was born in Ethel, Mississippi on March 1, 1941, to James Lee and Mamie Shipp Lee. She grew up in Clarksdale, Ms. and married Thomas Risher Massey on Aug. 24, 1959. Audrey and Thomas moved to Lobutcha Ranch in Attala County where they lived with their family until Thomas passed away in 1992. At that time, Audrey moved to Louisville, Ms. where she resided until the last year of her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Louisville and she treasured the many friendships and the fellowship that she had there.
Audrey is survived by her daughter, Debra Massey Lutzow and husband, Kurt, of Montgomery, Texas, her two sons, Thomas Risher Massey, Jr., of Brandon, Mississippi; and James Harland Massey and wife, Shawn, of Ethel, Mississippi. She is also survived by her grandson, Alex Massey of New Orleans, La., as well as Chase, Katie, Seth, Reese, and Raylen, children and grandchildren of Shawn Massey who were dear to Audrey’s heart. Also, left to mourn her passing is her sister, Barbara Jenkins and husband, Ed, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and their two sons, David and Paul Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Massey; and her parents. Audrey also leaves behind many special friends for whom she was forever grateful.
Audrey and her family extend special thanks to the dedicated, caring staff at The Claiborne in Starkville, Ms. who loved and cared for her until the end of her life.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chase Bradley, Ronald Holdiness, David Jenkins, Paul Jenkins, Leon Lewis, and Alex Massey.
