Thomas "Tommy" Myers Mitchell

Mr. Thomas “Tommy” Myers Mitchell, 87, died Sunday, January 25, 2015, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 27th, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the service time at the church. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Mitchell was born July 21, 1927, in Louisville, MS. He graduated from Mississippi State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He was a part owner of Louisville Brick Company where he retired as president after working there for over 40 years, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Louisville. He was also an Army Veteran, having served during The Korean Conflict; and a member of The National Guard, where he retired as a major after 22 years.

Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, Louise Myers Mitchell and Fred F. Mitchell, and infant daughter, Sara Catherine.

Tommy was an avid sportsman and loved to fish and hunt, he loved his Mississippi State Bulldogs, and most of all he loved his family.

He is survived by the love of his life and his wife of 64 years, Patty McKay Mitchell of Louisville, MS; his son, Lee M. (Patty) Mitchell of Louisville, MS; his daughter, Nancy (Jack) Cole of Monroe, LA; one sister, Sara Mize of Oxford, MS; one half brother, Fred Mitchell of Louisville, MS; one niece, Louise (John) Burney Tyner; five grandchildren, Laura Catherine (Ryan) Mason, Robert Mitchell, John Cole, Mitchell Cole, and Caroline Cole; one great granddaughter, Bailey Mason; and numerous cousins and friends.

The family also wishes to thank Bobby Clark for being a true, lifelong friend to Tommy.

Pallbearers will be Robert Mitchell, John Cole, Mitchell Cole, Ryan Mason, John Tyner, and Dr. Fred Nabers.
