Alan Wayne Whitmire

Alan Wayne Whitmire, age 64, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at his residence in Columbus, Mississippi. Memorial services and interment will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 7 at Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, Mississippi, with Rev. Trent Jaudon officiating. The family encourages everyone to follow COVID-19 precautions.

Wayne was born August 11, 1955, to Darwin and Marzene Whitmire in Greenville, South Carolina. He worked with the Corps of Engineers as a Lock Supervisor on the Tombigbee River until his retirement in 2010. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, trying to keep up with his two German shepherd playmates, and playing checkers with his grandchildren.

Wayne is survived by his wife Georgia Whitmire of Columbus, his mother Marzene Whitmire of Louisville, his son Brandon Whitmire and wife Stephanie of Ethelsville, Alabama, and his daughter Cheryl Woody and husband Murray of Columbus. One of his greatest joys was his four grandchildren: Malorie and Hunter Whitmire of Ethelsville, Alabama, and Andrew and Madison Woody of Columbus. He also leaves behind two brothers Steve (Sandy) Whitmire of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Kenneth (June) Whitmire of Pensacola, Florida; his aunt Linda Swain of Louisville, and his father-in-law Irving Power also of Columbus; in addition to several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Wayne also has two surviving step-children Jacob St. Laurenc and Erin (Edward) Parisian, as well as one step-grandchild Nathaniel Parisian all of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father Darwin Whitmire and his mother-in-law Mary Power.
