Lamar was born May 3, 1958, to Joseph L. and Oma Dell Dickerson Kitchens. He was a member of Welcome Chapel Jesus Name Church where he often played the guitar and sang. He loved the outdoors especially fishing and hunting. Lamar was known for his body work on vehicles and his woodworking skills. He also enjoyed driving a log truck for several different loggers throughout the years.

Lamar is survived by two sons Chad Kitchens and wife Sue of Starkville, and Brett Kitchens and wife Daphne of Philadelphia; and his son-in-law Jay Watson. One of his great joys was being “PaPaw” to his four grandchildren: Brooke Watson Davis and husband Wyatt, Grant Kitchens, Bella Annalese Kitchens, and Kinsley Rose Kitchens. He also leaves behind three sisters: Kathleen Walker, Linda (Cliff) Hunt, and Jamie Reed; and his nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lamar was preceded in death by his son Chris Kitchens, his daughter Mandy Watson, his parents, his brother Michael Kitchens, and his sister Betty Bailey.

Serving as pallbearers are Grant Kitchens, Jay Watson, Jeremy Garner, Justin Kitchens, Danny Richardson, Zac Richardson, Brandon Stovall, and Bradley White. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Coleman and Larry Massey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in memory of Lamar be given to Nowell Massey Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
