James Shumaker

Mr. James M. Shumaker, 79, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018, with Rev. Hank Dempsey officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Shumaker was born on July 4, 1939, to Oakley N. and Ida Dempsey Shumaker. He retired from serving as a Game Warden of Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries, and Parks in Oktibbeha County after 20 years. Before becoming a Mississippi Game Warden he spent his time hauling pulpwood for many years.

James is survived by his daughter, Lynn Brigance and husband, Tim; and two sons, Eddie Shumaker and wife, Johnice; and Edward Shumaker all of Pheba, Mississippi; and his sister, Barbara Ann Ledbetter and husband, Bud of Texas. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren: Chad McClatchey and wife, Christie, Ashley McClatchey, Kimberly White and husband, Austin, Dana Roush and husband, Daniel, Billy Clark, III and wife, Amy, Jessica McDaniel and husband, Mitch, Jonathan Blansett, Preston Shumaker, and Eli Cook; his thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson, Rivers Aiden Fletcher. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances Shumaker; and his daughter, Loretta Blansett.

Serving as pallbearers will be Robby Blade, Jonathan Blansett, Michael Craddock, Stephen Edwards, Daniel Fletcher, Ben McCurry, Mitch McDaniel, Daniel Roush, Preston Shumaker, Austin Warren, and Joey Windfield. Memorials may be given to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 10713 Hwy 14 West, Louisville, MS 39339.
