Hilda Everitt Simmons

Mrs. Hilda Everitt Simmons was born October 29, 1929, in Laurel MS, and died August 9, 2018, in Louisville, MS after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 13th, at First Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:30 to 6:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home, and Monday from 9:30 until service time at the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.


Hilda was born October 29, 1929, in Laurel, MS. She graduated from Laurel High School, attended Jones Jr. College for a year, then transferred to Mississippi State University, where she earned a B.S. in math and science, and later a degree in art, and met her future husband Paul. In addition to homemaking, she taught art in Louisville High School for a number of years, was an active member of First Methodist Church of Louisville, taught Sunday School for many years, and was a long-time active member of the Red Hills Quilters Guild and Red Hills Art Foundation.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Berton and Willie Everitt, one brother Buddy Everitt, and
one infant son, Marshall David Simmons.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul N. Simmons, one daughter Paula (Charlie) Waggoner of Starkville, and 3 sons Everitt (Ruthie) Simmons of Birmingham, Neil (Tonya) Simmons of Brandon, and Geedie Simmons of Starkville. Grandchildren are Shannon (Billy) Borland, Jeremy Simmons, Gage (Louise) Simmons, Kaitlin Simmons, Kayla Simmons, Erica (Josh) Horton, and Luke Simmons. Great Grandchildren are: Ava Ruth, Naomi, William, and Everitt Borland; Savannah and Shiloh Simmons; Judah, Sophia, and Ana Simmons; Briggs Horton.

Hilda influenced the lives of family, students, and friends with a special touch of love and a caring spirit. Those who knew and loved her rejoice that she is with her Lord.

Pallbearers will be David Crowson, Joe Clark, Johnny Crowell, Wade Hailey, Tommy Jefcoat, and Cliff Hudson.
