Mr. David Henry Stewart, Sr., age 94, died Saturday, 01 April 2017, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi, with family members present. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rich Malone officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at Nowell Massey Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Interment will be at Oak Springs Cemetery, approximately 4 miles northeast of Calhoun City, Mississippi, at 4 p.m.
Mr. Stewart was born March 4, 1923, in Derma, Mississippi. He moved to Louisville in 1963 as partner with Eugene Robinson (Robinson Insurance Agency). He was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years and served in the US Air Force during WWII.
He graduated from Houston Mississippi High School in 1941, attended Ole Miss and graduated with a B.S. degree from Mississippi State in 1948. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He operated an All Jersey Dairy Farm near Collins, Mississippi. He owned a service station in McComb, Mississippi. He worked for the Home Insurance Company in Jackson, Mississippi, before moving to Louisville in 1963. He participated in numerous Christian Medical Mission trips and also taught English as a Second Language after retirement in the countries of Honduras, China, Romania and Ukraine. He was an avid Gardener, Coon Hunter with Black & Tan Hounds, Lay Preacher and Deacon.
He is survived by his wife of over 69 years, Marzelle Nickels Stewart of Louisville; 3 children, David Stewart, Jr; Dale Stewart, Susie Stewart (Ken) all of Louisville. Five grandchildren: Jason Stewart (Angela), Dulcie Stewart Cherry (Brandon) also of Louisville; Matt Stewart of Starkville, Mississippi; Stephanie Covington (Mark) of Noxapater, Mississippi; Kelsey Stewart of Starkville, Mississippi; and three great-Grandchildren: Anna Grace Cherry, Cody Stewart of Louisville and Blake Covington of Noxapater. He also leaves behind to mourn his passing, his younger brother, Robert Stewart, of Vardaman, Mississippi. David was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Archie Stewart and Sybil Maude Rhodes (Stewart) both of Derma; one sister, Catherine Stewart Mitchell of Lexington, Kentucky; and a great-grandson, Kyle Terry.
Pallbearers will be Ken Stewart, Matt Stewart, Jason Stewart, Mark Covington, Cody Stewart and Brandon Cherry. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Monday Prayer Breakfast group from Poplar Flat Baptist Church.
