Dan B. McLaurin, 80, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Neshoba County Nursing Home in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, May 22, 2015, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Liberty Baptist Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, with Dr. Paul Blanchard officiating. Additional visitation will also be the day of the service at the church from 2 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery on Hartness Cemetery Road.
Mr. McLaurin was born on April 5, 1935, to Eugene and Katie Barefield McLaurin. He was a member of East Philadelphia Baptist Church and was retired from U. S. Motors Corporation in Philadelphia where he worked in the Maintenance Department for more than 30 years. He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Dan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Estelle Hartness McLaurin; and four sons, Danny McLaurin, Terry McLaurin, and Billy McLaurin all of Philadelphia; and Bobby McLaurin of Forest, Mississippi. He is also survived by six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Kay Emmons and husband, Larry, of Winona, Mississippi. Mr. McLaurin was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ed McLaurin; Raymond McLaurin; John Earl McLaurin; and James McLaurin; and his sister, Katherine Barnett.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ted Hartness, Lamar Horne, Eddie Mac McLaurin, Jimmy McLaurin, Mike Speapasico, and Bobby Joe Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Emmons and Ronnie Hartness. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P. O. Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
