He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years, Rebecca Ann Gregory Schoolar; his son Greg Schoolar and wife Eleanor; grandson Nicholas Schoolar and wife Mandy; grandson Andy Schoolar; great-granddaughters Taylor Schoolar, Carly Schoolar and Ella Schoolar. He also leaves a brother John Earl Schoolar and wife Clara; as well as numerous other family members.Born and raised in Winston County, Mississippi, he was the son of Roger H. Schoolar and Ottie M. Cockrell Schoolar. He graduated from Ellison Ridge High School and served in the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life Rebecca Ann Gregory in 1954 and they moved from Louisville, Mississippi, to Mobile, Alabama, where he started a 47 year career in food sales and management. His career took his family to Atlanta, Georgia; Jackson, Mississippi; and finally Mandeville, Louisiana, where he retired.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Covington, Louisiana, and had many special friends in their bible study class there. He loved going to the worship service early so he could sit and listen to the organist practice.
He was kind, humorous, huggable, a handyman, loved to tease, compassionate, generous and a hero to many. He treasured spending time with his family. He and Ann built a lake house in Stone County, Mississippi, where he loved to spend time fishing, gardening, and sitting on the porch swing visiting with friends and watching the birds.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 13, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, Mississippi 39339.
The service to celebrate his life will be Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Nowell Massey followed by burial at Perkinsville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to First Baptist Church in Covington, Louisiana at 16333 Louisiana Highway 1085, Covington, Louisiana 70433 designated to the Foreign Missions Fund.
