Mr. Jimmy McMillin, 86, died Thursday, September 13, 2012, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, Sept. 15th, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Childs and Rev. Benjamin Pittman officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home.
Mr. McMillin was born December 7, 1925, in Louisville, MS. He served in the Merchant Marines and was a veteran of World War II and Korea. He was a graduate of Louisville High School, and attended Bowling Green University. He had been in business in Louisville for many years, having owned the Louisville Hotel, Louisville Ready Mix, M & M Construction; and McMillin Realty and Insurance Company. He served as chairman of the Democratic Party in Winston County for 40 years; and served on the Louisville Utility Board for 30 years, and as its president for 25 years. He served as president of the Board of Directors of Winston County Hospital; and was the youngest director chosen to serve on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Louisville. He was one of the founders of Winston Academy. He was a Mason, and a member of First Baptist Church for over 80 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Barbara McMillin; a daughter, Julie McMillin Sloan; his parents, Burris William and Mattie Irene McMillin; a sister, Becky Tidwell; and two brothers, Bill McMillin and Dr. Carlton McMillin. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Giffin McMillin of Louisville; a son, Jamie (Lisa) McMillin of Louisville; a daughter, Suzie McMillin Lawson of Louisville; nine grandchildren, Chris Lawson, Kirk Lawson, Barbara Lawson, Jay McMillin, Paul McMillin, Barbara McMillin,, Jonathan (Meredith) McMillin, Daniel (Tia) Parker, and Jamie Lee Parker; one grandson, Jayson McMillin; and two step-daughters, Beth Weingarden and Jean Monroe.
