Ray Hemphill

Elton Ray Hemphill, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Sunday, September 25, 2022. A graveside service and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 28 at Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, Mississippi, with Bro. Trent Jaudon officiating.

Ray was born October 5, 1941, to Walter and Eva Dell Sullivan Hemphill. Ray was a 1963 graduate of Mississippi State University with an Industrial Management degree. He was a superintendent at TRW and Taylor Machine Works. He retired from KeHe Foods. Ray was also the President and Chairman of the board for American Creosote Works for 28 years. He was a member of South Louisville Baptist Church. His favorite pastimes were college football and working in his yard. His greatest joy was spending time with his family

Ray is survived by his wife Judy Kay Shumaker Hemphill, his children Timothy Ray (Jo Katherine), Scott (Janet), and Mike (Delana) Hemphill. One of his greatest joys was being “Paw Paw” to his grandchildren Cruise, Tyler, Brandon, Josh, and Michael Hemphill as well as his great-grandson Israel Hemphill. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jerry Hemphill and Larry Hemphill, and his sisters Evelyn Smith, Jane Atkinson, Walterine Hemphill, and infant Virginia Hemphill.
