Mary Virginia Mitchell

Mary Virginia Mitchell, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at her home with her loving family by her side. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 16 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be the day of the service from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Interment will immediately follow in Louisville Memorial Cemetery.

Virginia was born October 24, 1927, to Owen Fleming, Sr. and Linzie Danner Fleming. She attended Camp Ground Methodist Church. Virginia was a loving mother and homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and working in her flowers. Virginia was a loving caregiver for her small grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and was always ready to help others.

Virginia is survived by her children: Carolyn Butler of Wesson, Mississippi, Dale Mitchell, Ronnie Mitchell and wife Ann, and Sue Shotts and husband Frankie all of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Granny” to her seven grandchildren: Brian Butler, Jennifer (Ben) Conway, Chris (Monica) Mitchell, Carrie Boyd, Kelli Mitchell, Jamie (Laura) Shotts, and Jay (Katie) Shotts; as well as her five great-grandchildren: Vance Conway, Jacey Shotts, Blair Boyd, Avery Shotts, and Thomas Shotts. She also leaves behind two sisters Eula (Ted) Betts and Gloria (Wallace) Cade, two brothers Joe (Agnes) Fleming and Terry (Judy) Fleming, two sisters-in-law Martha Fleming and Sheila Fleming, in addition to a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. 

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Dale Mitchell, her parents, her siblings: O. P. Fleming, Jr., Bobby Gene Fleming, Earnest Fleming, Billy Ray Fleming, Bobby Lewis Fleming and Laverne McKay, and her son-in-law Joe Butler.

Serving as pallbearers are Brian Butler, Chris Mitchell, Jamie Shotts, Jay Shotts, Scottie Fleming, Lee Fleming, Wally Cade and Mark Fleming. 

The family requests memorials in honor of Virginia be given to Camp Ground United Methodist Church Missions Fund, c/o Becky Waddell, 3080 Young Crossing Road, Louisville, MS 39339.
