Wayne Gordon

Coyt Wayne Gordon, age 70, passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, January 31, from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 1, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Scott Phillips and Rev. T. J. Jennings officiating. Graveside services and interment will be in Melrose Baptist Church Cemetery in Yazoo County, Mississippi.

Wayne was born May 30, 1949, to Coyt and Geneva Smith Gordon in Winston County. He is a graduate of Weir High School after which he earned an associate’s degree from Holmes Junior College. Wayne began his career by serving as a police officer for the City of Louisville. He served as the manager of the Louisville Country Club Golf Course and Ponta Creek Golf Course at the Naval Base in Meridian, Mississippi. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman so his next career move was Wildlife Management through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. Most recently, he was involved in managing properties for The Hughes Group. He enjoyed playing golf and was also a golf fan. Being an outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. Wayne was a fan of any sports activity at Mississippi State University.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Susan P. Gordon of Louisville; and his daughter Holly Triplett and husband John of Meridian. One of his greatest joys was being “Pappy” to his two granddaughters Maggie Grace and Elanor Triplett. He is also survived by his siblings: Christine (Smith) Raybun of French Camp, Mississippi; Allen Gordon of Birmingham, Alabama; and Bonita (Joe) Martin of Eupora, Mississippi; in addition to his nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Serving as pallbearers are Mike Cournoyer, Britt Hamill, Jamie McMillin, Andy Powell, Jackson Powell, Randall Powell, Don Smith, and Jim Wilcutt. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Ard, Joe Clark, John Fair, Frank Farley, Ralph Goss, Hap Hickman, Robert Higginbotham, Roger Mason, Jeff McMinn, Niles McNeel, Bob Pyle, E. L. Vowell, Steve White, Freddie Wiltcher, Wendell Womack, and Bill Yateman.
